Tonight was a celebration of a legacy that began long before our doors opened in Paramus.
It started in the basement of my childhood home, where I watched my father, Professor Ronald Mertz, build something truly special. From there, he taught and inspired students throughout Emerson, River Vale, Park Ridge, Hillsdale, and Blauvelt, NY. For the past 22 years, Paramus has proudly become the next chapter in that story.
Tonight, black belts and students from every chapter of that journey came together to celebrate the opening of our new home at Paramus Park Mall. Looking around the room and seeing faces from decades of memories reminded me that The Dojo has never been about a building—it has always been about the people.
As the daughter who once ran around the dojo while my father taught all of you, standing here today as the head instructor was incredibly meaningful. Even more special was looking over and seeing history repeat itself—my own little ones running around the dojo while my oldest son, Sensei Jack, stood beside me teaching the next generation.
To the Mayor, Council, and the entire Paramus community, thank you for welcoming us and celebrating this milestone with us. Paramus has been an incredible home for more than two decades.
This town has supported us, believed in us, and allowed us to grow into a school that has helped shape thousands of lives through martial arts. Tonight was a celebration of our history, our values, and the incredible community that continues to stand beside us. We are deeply grateful for every family, every student, and every black belt who has been part of this journey.
Tonight honored our past, celebrated our present, and reminded us that our greatest chapters are still ahead.
Here’s to the future, our new home at Paramus Park Mall, and the generations still to come. ❤️🥋
