Whitefish Point Marathon

With sadness, we report that Rob Klein, who was the inspiration of the Whitefish Point Marathon passed away in May, 2022 at age 65. Rob enlisted the Paradise Area Chamber of Commerce to host the marathon as one of its events in 2013. He was the race director for 2013-2015. He did the measurements and paperwork to have the Whitefish Point Marathon course certified by USA Track & Field so that the race would be eligible as a Boston Qualifying marathon beginning 2014. Rob had retired to Paradise in 2011 after a career as an engineer at Boeing. During his retirement, he worked as a night clerk at the Magnuson Grand Hotel Lakefront Paradise. Rob was a member of Marathon Maniacs and ran hundreds of marathons over the years and will be missed in the running community. A tribute to Rob was posted on the Grand Magnuson Hotel page. It has just been posted on the Whitefish Point Marathon website that there will be no 2022 event. Traditionally the Whitefish Point Marathon is held the third weekend in June. Any Whitefish Township Michigan resident interested in directing the 2023 Whitefish Point Marathon needs to reach out to (906)492-3219.

We thank all of the volunteers, sponsors, and runners that have been participating and following the Whitefish Point Marathon and we hope 2023 will be off and running with plans and registrations by October! We'll keep you posted here.

Here is a special shout out to Bill Sved of Marquette, Michigan! Bill pictured in the center of this 2013 Whitefish Point Marathon Packet Pick Up photo ran the event. On the far right is 2013 - 2015 Race Director and race instigator, Rob Klein. Bill Sved directed the race 2016 - 2021. His passion for marathons and dedication to the promotion of the Paradise area will be greatly missed.

Registration fees increase on May 1, 2021. Registering is the first step to get to the finish line with the help of our volunteers for this year's marathon on June 12, 2021. Americorps volunteers with race director at the finish line on June 8, 2019.

As of March 8, more than 60% of the field has been filled. There are now less than 40 spots remaining. Registration will close when the field limit has been reached.

Registration opens at noon Eastern Standard Time on March 1, 2021 See website whitefishpointmarathon.org for details. This year's race will be held on June 12, 2021 and limited to capacity of 115 runners.
