If there are any 13-14 year old select players still looking for a place to play this fall, Papillion Baseball Association had a couple of spots open up on one of our 14U advanced teams. This is a new division meant for select players, played on the 60/90 field (vs. our rec 14U which is on 54/80). They practice at least once weekly and have 1-2 games per week (Monday and/or Saturday), 12 total games. Send me a message or message the PBA page if interested!

In case you missed it, fall registration is open for Papillion Baseball Association!! Registration closes midnight August 1st and the season will run August 15th-October 17th. A few things to know about fall baseball:

1. Teams will have 1 practice and 1-2 games per week. In ages 10U and up, there may be some double-headers mixed in to the schedule (usually only 1-2). In fall, there is no end of season tournament and no medals.

2. If your player will be eligible to play in a higher age group next spring, that age group will be available for you to choose for this fall. It is your choice whether to play at their current age level or to play up in the age group they will be in next spring (take into consideration their skill level, size, and maturity level). If you would like to play up beyond this, please register in the highest age group you can and then contact me at [email protected].

3. We do not have assessments or a draft for fall baseball. Players may request teammates/coaches regardless of age and we will accommodate these requests as much as we can (with the possible exception of select players--see below).

4. We welcome USSSA-registered (select) baseball players in our fall league! However, WE WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWING FULL/MOSTLY FULL TEAMS OF SELECT PLAYERS TO PLAY TOGETHER, EVEN IF PLAYING UP IN AGE (exception: 14U Advanced division--see below). Select players will be split up if there are too many requesting the same team, to ensure a more fair distribution of talent. These players will have a great time just playing for fun and being with friends/classmates that they don't usually get to play with.

5. We are particularly looking for players for our regular 13-14U division as well as the new 14U Advanced division we are starting. The advanced division will be played on 90 foot bases and is intended for older players with an advanced skill level--players entering 9th grade who think they have what it takes to try out for their high school team, or those who played 13 or 14U select baseball this season. Select teams/partial teams WILL be allowed to stay together in this division. Currently this division is in a waiting list status until we figure out for sure that we will have enough players (we will make a decision by July 30th)--it is looking very promising at this stage.

We also need great coaches! If you are able to coach, be sure to fill out the coach registration!

They did it again! After being AA state champs last year and getting moved up to AAA, most would be satisfied to just try to “keep up” at the higher level. Thanks to hard work and dedication by all the players and coaches, 11U Wreckers blew expectations out of the water to become AAA state champions this year! They went 6-0 in the tournament last weekend, facing cross-town rivals and #1 seed Stormchasers Gold in the championship. In the championship they went down 8-1 after the first inning but they didn’t give up! They didn’t allow a single run the rest of the game and came back to win 10-8! Some highlights for the weekend:
5 players batted 0.500 or higher
6 players had zero strike outs across 6 games
Every player had at least one RBI
7 players contributed as pitchers with an overall ERA of 3.3
Overall run differential for the state tournament 61-31
Tell these boys and coaches “Great job!” if you see them!

Attention 14U select baseball players and teams in the Papillion area (those who played 14U this year or will play 14U next year): Papillion Baseball Association is planning to offer a new division in their fall baseball league this year. This division is geared towards select players and/or 9th graders who plan to try out for their high school team in the spring. They will play at 90-foot base distances (versus our 14U rec division which plays on 80 foot bases). Open to individual players or full/partial teams (select teams CAN play together in this division). This is a great opportunity to get some reps in closer to home, at a low price compared to other leagues (just $165 per player), for players moving up to 14U USSSA baseball to get used to the longer mound/base distances, and of course to have fun! Teams will have weekly practices and 10-12 total games (exact schedule is yet to be determined but will likely include some individual games and some double-headers). We currently have this set up as a "waiting list" registration with no cost to join--once we have enough players to have a viable league, we will "activate" the list and you will be notified to complete the registration and make your payment. If we do not have enough players by July 30th, we will notify you that we will not be moving forward with this; this will give players time to register for other programs if desired. Happy 4th of July to everyone and Happy 250th Birthday, America! Just sharing our patriotic jersey for this year. This is what happens when the guy designing the jersey is a military brat and a history major—you get a whole history lesson on your jersey 😂 We do a special patriotic/military jersey every year. Two years ago it was the 80th anniversary of D-day, last year was the 250th anniversary of the Army, Navy, and Marines, and next year will be the 80th anniversary of the Air Force! Also big thanks to the artists at Berserk Athletics who always do such a great job and put up with all Josh’s edits and picky-ness!

13U Wreckers were runners-up at the Let Freedom Ring Wood Bat tournament in Sioux Falls this weekend. It was a LONG weekend with 6 games and all but one went to 7 innings, and today they were at the ball field from 7 AM to 8 PM. They are EXHAUSTED but happy to earn a ring!

Tryouts are winding down for Papillion Wreckers but a few teams still have opportunities this week. Please see below. Wreckers focus on development and value for money. Costs range from about $900-1300 depending on age (8U more like $350-400 plus spring rec registration fees). About 4-7 tournaments (again, depending on age, and only 1 travel tournament (older ages may do 2 if families want).

Last Saturday, a bunch of Wreckers players came out to volunteer as “buddies” for the Miracle League (Allplay Miracle Baseball League baseball league for the disabled). Unfortunately we got rained out but we really love doing this service project and we will be back! It’s fun for the players, and great for them to learn to give back to the community and to appreciate everything that they are able to do. I know the Miracle League is always looking for volunteers—visit their website for more info or to sign up (http://www.allplay.org/). Also check them out if you know a person who is disabled and would like to play—they have leagues for both kids and adults!
