Every season, head coaches on the Kansas side of the KC Metro are asked to vote on an All-Metro team, consisting of the Top 20 runners across all high schools in the metro area.

For the second season in a row, our very own ELLA NEEDHAM has been selected! This kid earns it EVERY DAY, and there is no one more deserving to be on that stage! Congratulations, Ella! We are so proud of you!

A Fall Morning in Beautiful Paola…

“Thank you” doesn’t say enough. To the participants, the cross country athletes and parents who helped, the Paola Rec Commission, our incredible sponsors, and the City of Paola, you’re the best.

This morning’s fun run was incredible. The weather, the foggy scene, and the people. All top notch. Thank you so much for everyone who had a hand in it.

Two weekends out! Come join us on November 15th in support of your Paola High School cross country team! We are coming off a great season for our program, and we need your investment to continue our growth!

We have room for everyone! A kids’ lap for the littles, a mile run/walk, and a 5K! If you just want to support the program through sponsorship of the event or another form of contribution, contact myself or Wes Wesley Joy with the Paola Rec. Registration on race day goes up $10, so sign up now!

A special group led by special seniors! So much fun and so many important moments for our program!

This group will hang the first cross country trophy in the hallways of Paola High School since 2019 and finishes as one of the Top 10 4A teams in the state.

Sophomore Ella Needham finishes as the State Championship Runner-Up, tying the highest individual placement in school history.

These athletes ran this Wamego course 2 months ago, and our scoring runners averaged about a 3 minute improvement today compared to that race in September. A couple improved by nearly 5 minutes in 8 weeks of work. Amazing!

Incredibly proud of this group, and so thankful to our seniors!

TODAY is the priority registration deadline for the PHS Cross Country Fun Run on Nov. 15th! We will take registrations all the way up until race time, but today is the last day to guarantee yourself a shirt.

Additionally, registration cost goes up to $30 instead of $20 if you wait until race day! We have a race or walk for anyone! A 5k, one mile, or the kids’ lap around the square!

Come enjoy the morning with us and help support your growing cross country programs at both PHS and PMS!

Only the toughest survive, let alone thrive. What a great performance by a gutsy group of Panthers! IS STATE BOUND!

The girls team secured a 2nd Place finish and punched their ticket to Wamego next week!

We also have a REGIONAL CHAMPION in Sophomore Ella Needham!

Maggie Hart finishes as Regional Runner-Up, and Senior Katelyn Peterson continues her incredible senior season with a 7th place finish!

If we tried to explain the conditions to you, you’d never believe it. Just know, these are some of the toughest kids you’ll ever get the pleasure of watching compete! Proud of these Panthers!

That wraps up the 2023 Season! 5 season bests on the day, on the toughest course in the state! This sport is unlike any other, and these athletes are the best of the best.

Congratulations to all of our qualifiers on a well-deserved State Qualification, and a special shoutout to Senior Devin Trent on a career PR and a State Medal in his final race as a Paola Panther!

One note from Coach Shumard: we will be back. And we will be back for hardware. We’re just getting started.

Micah Sanders: 7th Place. 30-second career PR. State Bound.

PHS Women’s XC Team: 5 Season Bests. 2 Gutsy Performances from people way less than 100% healthy, and relentless belief that it would all be worth it. State Bound.
