I get questions about 1903 Springfields rifles in particularly very early models. These rifles were chambered in the very powerful 30-06.
According to the Civilian Marksmanship Program, or CMP, M1903 rifles that were manufactured prior to February of 1918 (and which therefore have low serial numbers under 800,000) were manufactured with receivers and bolts that were only given a single heat treatment (and one that may well have been inadequate).
As a result, the receivers and bolts of these “low number” 1903 rifles are generally considered brittle and can fail catastrophically when firing the rifle. Injuries have been reported fir WW1.
Rifles with serial numbers lower than these are considered “low number” rifles and should not be fired. Rifles with serial numbers higher are called “high number” rifles and, if all else checks Rifles with serial numbers lower than these are considered “low number” (under 800,000) rifles and should not be fired. Rifles with serial numbers higher (>800,000) are called “high number” rifles and, if all else checks out and the rifle is in acceptable shape, should be safe to fire.

Neither rain, sleet or snow will stop our CWL classes in Florida. Who in the world could have ever predicted snow in Florida. These class members were truly dedicated. They were a lot of fun too. I hope I get them in a future class.

New shooter for our Florida Concealed Weapons License (CWL) class. Very nervous initially since she's never handled or fired a gun. She over came that and did well.

I am often asked a what age can you carry a handgun in your Car (conveyance) while traveling in Florida.
This is listed in F.S. 790.25 (4)(a):
Notwithstanding s. 790.01, a person 18 years of age or older who is in lawful possession of a handgun or other weapon may possess such a handgun or weapon within the interior of a private conveyance if the handgun or weapon is securely encased or otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use. A person who possesses a handgun or other weapon as authorized under this paragraph may not carry the handgun or weapon on his or her person.

I get a number of questions from time to time. Your definition and your particular States may be different; So know definitions where you live. In Florida F.S. 790.001 (9): A “Firearm” means any weapon (including a starter gun) which will, is designed to, or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; the frame or receiver of any such weapon; any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; any destructive device; or any machine gun. The term “firearm” does not include an antique firearm unless the antique firearm is used in the commission of a crime.

Florida allows you to Conceal Carry other weapons than fi****ms. Fla. Statute 790.001 (20) defines a weapon as follows:
“Weapon” means any dirk, knife, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie (club), tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon except a firearm or a common pocketknife, plastic knife, or blunt-bladed table knife. Check your State as some ONLY allow handguns.

Florida's Constitutional Concealed Carry is really "Permitless Carry" since the following requirements apply:

1) You must be 21 years and older (this doesn't apply to Active Service members or Veterans).

2) You must carry a valid ID. Failure to do so is a $25 fine and can lead to a prolonged Investigative Detention

3) You must be a legal US Citizen.

4) You must physically be able to safely use a weapon. Any infirmity that doesn't allow you to do so is a disqualifier.

5) Cannot be a Felon

6) Cannot carry if there is any criminal history of domestic violence, alcohol or substance abuse within 3 years.

7) Cannot have been Dishonorably Discharged from the Armed Services.

8) Any mental issues or incapacities.

Constitutional carry does grant the right to carry a gun without needing a permit if you don't have any disqualifiers.
A lot of people think "I'll buy a gun and I am good to go". You are responsible for your actions as a fi****ms owner.
Constitutional carry doesn’t relieve you of any responsibility for knowing your State's Laws. Being ignorant or not understanding your State's Laws will never excuse you from failing to follow those laws.
It's a great idea that you receive proper training and understand the relevant state gun laws where you live so you can act lawfully and in a responsible manner.
