Sitting in about 70 ft of water, this isn’t your typical shipwreck…it’s an underwater structure that’s absolutely loaded with life. Schools of Red Snapper stacked up around the spans, Spadefish cruising through, and even a massive Goliath Grouper hanging in the shadows. Everywhere you look—fish.

What makes this dive even cooler is the history. These spans were once part of the original Hathaway Bridge, which connected Panama City to the beach side for decades. When the new bridge was built, sections of the old structure were intentionally sunk offshore and repurposed into artificial reefs—turning a piece of local infrastructure into thriving marine habitat.

Now it’s an underwater city. Open swim-throughs, great light, and constant movement—no tight wreck pe*******on, just pure diving.

If you’re diving Panama City Beach, this is one you don’t skip.

Dropped into one of Panama City Beach’s most iconic wreck dives — the Red Sea. 72 degrees F at 78 feet

Originally a commercial vessel that changed hands multiple times before being intentionally sunk in 2009, the Red Sea now rests upright in about 75 feet of water off the coast of Panama City Beach, Florida. What started as a community-supported artificial reef project has become one of the Gulf’s favorite wreck dives.

📍 Coordinates: 30°03.676’N / 85°43.723’W

The wreck is now covered in marine life with snapper, amberjack, grouper, barracuda, and massive schools of baitfish moving through the structure. Visibility was solid and the wreck still has an incredible amount of recognizable detail.
