Tonight we had the opportunity to attend the end of year banquet for the Pana Varsity Baseball Team. We would like to thank the senior baseball players for their dedication to the high school program, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors. We were able to present each of them with an engraved bat again this year.

For the first year, of hopefully many more to come, we were able to award one senior softball player and one senior baseball player with a scholarship to help offset some of the costs associated with either a college or a trade school. Donations from the public and those who have supported us with our fundraisers made this possible! The scholarship was awarded to an individual that was a member of the Club and:
1) Showed great leadership and character both on and off of the field.
2) Exhibited exemplary sportsmanship towards their own teammates, their opponents, and umpires.
3) Valued the performance of the entire team above their own performance.
4) Displayed the best attitude when either winning or losing.
5) Was the best steward for their sport, helping to develop the next generation of ball players.

The winner was voted on by their teammates and coaches. The 2026 winner for baseball, was Madyx Angel, who will be attending St. Louis University in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program starting this fall. Congratulations Madyx, and we are wishing you the best of luck on this next chapter! Thank you for being a great representative of Pana High School!

Registration to be a member of Pana Diamonds Club for the 2026-2027 school year will be available at the handbook meetings at the beginning of the school year, or can be turned in to any Diamonds Club Board Member. If you are interested in being a member of the board, please reach out to Blair Angel at 217-825-9870.

Dane Epley is the son of Doug and Natalie Epley. He has played baseball with this group of boys since fourth grade when they formed the Jr. Panthers. He has played Pana baseball since he was a sixth grader. His freshman year, he played every position except catcher. He played third base the majority of his junior year, and switched to playing first base his senior year. He also continues to be in the pitching lineup. Dane also played for the Shelby County Legion team for two summers and formed friendships with players from teams that he has now played against. His favorite memory of playing baseball was “throwing a combined no-hitter in the 8th grade regional championship game”.
Dane and teammate Madyx Angel were two members of the Varsity Golf team that set many new school records this past fall, which includes making it to State for the first time in school history. They were great senior leaders for the younger golfers. Dane is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. He also has received academic honors throughout all four years of his high school career.
Dane has spent the last two summers working for Oak Terrace. He and his friends like to golf there a lot when they aren’t working. His future plans are to pursue a career in plumbing.
