Early Saturday morning, at 4:30 am, we were broken into and the thieves drove away with 6 golf carts. They broke through the fence by the maintenance building, casually walked to the golf cart staging area and drove them to the parking lot where a box truck was waiting. The value of these carts are in excess of $45,000 and they were gone within 10 minutes. Most importantly no one was harmed.

We see stories like this on the news constantly for the past few years, and I feel like we are living in a world where the thieves just do not care about consequences anymore and are going to keep it up.

Please secure your houses and businesses and just be safe and diligent.

Hello everyone!

It’s been a rough week with storms, power outages, and tree damage throughout our community. Hopefully the worst is behind us and brighter days are ahead!

Today, as the rain was falling, I noticed a young man standing alone in the Oak Hills parking lot. I stopped to ask what he was doing, and he told me he was selling popcorn as part of a fundraiser for his baseball team.

I suggested he move up to the clubhouse entrance where he might have better luck reaching people, and he did. Unfortunately, it was a very slow day, and sales were limited.

His name is Duncan, and I’ve invited him back to Oak Hills tomorrow. With the beautiful weather expected, I’m hoping he’ll have a much more successful day.

If you’re able, please stop by and support Duncan by purchasing some popcorn or making a donation. He’s a wonderful young man working hard for a great cause.

To help out even more, Oak Hills will match every donation received tomorrow in support of Duncan and his baseball team.

Hello, my name is Jim Tourloukis, and I am the owner of Oak Hills Golf Course in Palos Heights. I have been in the golf business for 31 years and have several stories/memories, but what happened a week ago is clearly something I will never forget.

Early morning on August 12th, one of my employees on the grounds crew punched in for work at 5 am and then collapsed a few minutes later. After calling 911, his nephew, who is also the Golf Course Superintendent, tried to revive him while waiting for the ambulance. Unfortunately, after making it to the hospital, he tragically passed away. We were all devastated by this news, and the past week has been extremely difficult.

This evening, at his wake, I noticed 60 or so black boxes next to his casket. When asked what those were, his family stated that for a long time, he would find golf balls on the course while he was working. He left them in a hidden spot in his home.

When his children went to his home after his passing, they saw the enormous amount of golf balls and found a handwritten note on top of them. It stated, “Please box four of these golf balls and hand them out to everyone who attends my funeral.” Love, Dad.

That was extremely overwhelming, and it will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, my friend. You will be missed.
