As we say goodbye to Byxbee parkrun and prepare to move to our new course at Baylands Nature Preserve parkrun, we wanted to share this poem written by our very own ByxBee, Katherine Ingram.
We know the sense of community at Byxbee means a lot to many of you - we fully intend to carry that forward to the new Baylands course. (More details to follow very soon)
In the meantime, here's to Byxbee parkrun and all who ran her!
Farewell to Byxbee parkrun
Upon a place once cast aside,
Where trash was piled and time had dried,
We ran atop reclaimed terrain
Byxbee, born from loss to gain.
A trail of footsteps, stories spun
Today, we marked our final run.
Two hundred fifty times we came
The fog, the sun, the pouring rain.
And friendships bloomed beside the shore,
A family formed forevermore.
To every volunteer in hi-vis vest,
Who gave their time, who gave their best
You took our times, you cheered us through,
This day belongs as much to you.
And at the heart, one spark began
A vision, crafted hand in hand.
So here’s to Sarah, founder true,
This legacy was born from you.
But don’t mistake this as goodbye
We’re simply shifting, staying nigh.
Another park, a brand-new start,
But still the same great beating heart.
To Allen, Scott and Rob we say,
Thanks for leading a new way,
With countless hours and quiet might,
You've kept the parkrun flame alight.
And though we leave this shoreline bend,
The parkrun joy will never end.
With every step, we carry on
The soul of Byxbee’s never gone.
