🚀 Exciting developments for the space sector in Małopolska!

During the "Strategy for Space Entrepreneurship" panel at the US-Poland Science and Technology Symposium 2026, Andrzej Bańka from the Małopolska Marshal’s Office presented Małopolska’s vision for becoming one of Europe’s leading regions in the space sector.

Małopolska is building a strong ecosystem that combines scientific excellence, entrepreneurial ambition, and international cooperation to create new opportunities in the rapidly growing space economy. The region sees the space sector not only as a source of technological advancement, but also as a driver of economic growth, talent development, and global competitiveness.

A key element of this vision is close cooperation between public institutions, academia, and industry. The Małopolska Space Sector Council provides a platform for dialogue and strategic coordination, helping to align regional ambitions with the needs of the sector and emerging global opportunities.

Małopolska is looking to strengthen cooperation withinstitutions such as NASA and innovation leaders from Silicon Valley, opening new opportunities for innovation, commercialization, and international collaboration.

Through long-term investment in knowledge, collaboration, and innovation, Małopolska is positioning itself as a region ready to contribute to the next generation of space technologies and to play an active role in shaping the future of the global space economy.

Małopolska: Where Space Meets Talent 🚀

During the Małopolska: Where Space Meets Talent panel on the second day of the symposium, Dr. Piotr Dziurdzia, Member of the Małopolska Regional Assembly, outlined the region’s strategy for developing the space sector, built on three key pillars: education and workforce development, support for entrepreneurship and technological innovation, and international cooperation within European networks.

He highlighted several important initiatives, including the activities of the Małopolska Space Sector Council, cooperation within the NEREUS association, and the organisation and support of prestigious events such as the European Rover Challenge, Space Connect Summit, and Tech-ON! Kraków & Małopolska Region.

Dr. Dagmara Stasiowska from the Faculty of Space Technologies at the AGH University of Krakow then took the floor to present MXene in LEO – the first experiment from AGH University conducted aboard the International Space Station. The project investigates the potential of MXene-based wearable sensors for health monitoring in space.

Dr. Stasiowska also introduced the Faculty of Space Technologies, highlighting its rapid development since its establishment in April 2025 and its origins in the Space Technology Centre, operating since 2020. She emphasized the Faculty’s vibrant research environment, bringing together 15 research teams and 10 student research groups, as well as its strong industry partnerships and international engagement through the UNIVERSEH project.

Małopolska Region joined as a Strategic Regional Partner of the US–Poland Science & Technology Symposium “Opportunities in Aviation and Space”.

As a region actively engaged in the development of modern technologies, Małopolska is consistently strengthening its position in the space sector.

It supports innovation and international cooperation, including participation in initiatives such as the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies – NEREUS.

As part of the NEREUS partnership, Małopolska is creating a space ecosystem together with AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow University of Technology, the University of Agriculture in Krakow, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow Technology Park, the Kosciuszko Institute and the Ignatianum University in Krakow.

A significant milestone has also been the establishment of the Małopolska Space Sector Council, which coordinates activities aimed at developing the space industry in the region.
