Greeting All,

Due to low registration and trail condition uncertainty, we have unfortunately decided that we will need to postpone the return of the Eklutna Challenge until next year, May 4th 2024.

It was a bit of a time crunch in preparation for this event and expect much better results with a year to plan. All the event details will remain the same, and proceeds will go be the same beneficiaries, Alaska Trails, and Eagle River Nature Center.

Any registrations we’ve collected will be returned to the payor.

Good Morning!

We’re proud to announce the return of the Eklutna Challenge!!! This is a race that was held annually in the 2000’s until 2016. It’s a 3 mile run and 15 mile bike duathlon that heads through Eydlu Ben’s trail and Eklutna Lakeside trail. The race will take place on April 29th starting at 10:00am.

Entrance fees are $45 until April 20th, and $55 from April 21st - April 29th. All proceeds will be donated to Alaska Trails and the Eagle River Nature Center .

The event is limited to 200 participants. Show your support of the Chugach State Park trails and these wonderful organizations. Spread the word. Share, share, share!!!! We’ll see you there!!!

Thanks to everyone for all the interest in the Eklutna Challenge. The lower Lakeside trail was flooded in 2012 and 2013 and we did not have a race in 2014 due to trail conditions. The trail is scheduled to be repaired in 2015. How about a fall Eklutna Challenge? September 12th or 19th? If we get a good response we will do it so please pass the info around and let us know!

It was to cold to expect racers to stay for our prize drawings, so we did give some away to the people that were there we have some more. I believe this is a fat tire bike and will go to the first race finisher that sends me their mailing address

This is from 5.4 of the Eklutna Lake side trail. This was on of the worst sections along the trail. The Eklutna Challenge will still happen at 10am on Sunday June 2nd. I have not been able to upload all the pictures so I will try again later

2013 Eklutna Challenge info
We have wanted to add a kayak portion to the race for a long time. This year seemed the perfect time with the Alaska Sea Kayak Symposium happening on June 1st they agreed to help with the kayak portion on June 2nd.
HOWEVER....no one predicted that as of Thursday morning Eklutna Lake is still frozen!
The Symposium has been moved to Finger Lake and the kayak portion of the race has been canceled
The run and bike portions however will go as planned.
During the fall of 2012 the Eklutna Lakeside trail was damaged by high water and storms. We were working on it yesterday and it is passible with a few sections to walk across.
The race will start at 10am!
