If I Were A Golf Ball
It Is our nature to pretend –
to break the boredom of our day.
And on this habit, we depend
to chase our blues away.

At such time I wondered then,
through really off-the-wall,
of all the things I’ve never been.
and one’s a golfer’s ball!

A golf ball sure! it’s got it made,
that dimpled spheroid on the tee.
It sits and rest until it’s played
and that’s the life for me!

I’ll take the blow and spin and rise
to view the course below,
And settle in to grassy lies
Until again I go.

And on that note, I quickly stalled
and a saner thought prevailed.
For clearly if the stroke was flawed -
my fantasy would fail.

I could be skulled and cut clean through.
I could be eating dirt.
I might be plugged in Doggy doo
and end up worse than hurt.

Or buried deep beneath the lip
of traps yet to be seen.
Or take an unexpected dip
in waters quite unclean.

I’d be zipped up and put away
with smelly gloves and then -
slammed in a trunk some summer day
to cook within my skin!

I could be lost and all alone
for days and days on end.
And if I’m found, it should be known-
I could be lost again.

So, for this dream, I think I’ll chuck it.
With happening so strange,
I’ll end up striped, and in a bucket
at someone’s driving range.
