Step Toward Prevention

In the United States April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities on how to prevent it.

Universal Martial Arts Center will be hosting 2 self-defense workshops during the month of April, free and open to the public.
Please register as space is limited.

April 23rd (10am - 12pm)
Womens Self Defense workshop
*participation must be approved by parents if under the age of 18

April 30 (10am - 12pm)
Co-ed, workshop for Survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking, bullying, and domestic violence.

Hey UMAC Family,

Today marked 28 days since the state of California shut down. It has been difficult to not teach, to not guide, to not talk, to not share, and to not see the smiles of each and every one of you when you walk through our doors. Let us stay hopeful that the light will not run-out among the darkness and if it darkness surrounds us may we look up and see the stars shining bright.

We are hopeful that this shut-down is not extended past 4/30/2020 and we can go back to work come 5/1/2020. But until then don't forget you can join our classes on zoom or view training videos on the members only section of our website. For zoom you will just need the meeting ID and password emailed to you. If you need the info send us an email [email protected]

Hey UMAC Family,

Hope you are all staying healthy and safe. The determination to overcome difficulty stays strong. No matter how scared, frustrated, stressed, upset, anxious, and lost you may feel, never forget why we wake up each day, and try our hardest, no just for ourselves but for everyone around us.

UMAC Family,

As of this morning all active members have been sent access codes for our online training videos. If for some reason you did not receive yours please respond to this email so we can get a code out to you right away. There are home workouts available, and techniques for krav maga students, katas and sparring drills for the karate kids. If you have any questions about the techniques send us an email we will gladly go over all questions.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all navigate through these difficult times. We are a strong family we will get through this together!


We will keep you updated as new changes occur. As of today class curriculum will be available online until city, county, and state of California officials remove restrictions on non-essential businesses. Videos will be uploaded daily.

We are open as of today. Regular class times. The city of palm desert has not set any shelter-in-place order as of yet. They do have a meeting scheduled on the 20tu and we should know more from there. UMAC will continue to stay open and follow restrictions as specified by the CDC of no more than 10 people to a space and 6 feet distance from each individual. If you are healthy cone and train. If you are sick stay home and recover. Videos are being uploaded to our youtube channel with katas, fitness, and krav maga until they are moved to our website.

Please visit our youtube channel for kata, fitness, and krav maga videos. Karate kids are currently working on Kihon Kata for Basic class and Jiin Kata for Intensity class.

In addition, per current regulation only 10 people can be in a room at one time. We ask that parents wait in vehicle or outside until their child's class ends.

Kickboxing Fitness and Krav Maga students will alternate between outside exercises and inside drills according to attendance numbers.

We are open and will continue to stay open. If you are healthy come train we are here. If you are sick stay home, recover, and return when you get better.

UMAC has always maintained a clean and safe training environment to prevent spread of bacteria, because corona virus is not the only thing to worry about in gyms. This is why we take necessary precautions daily to ensure our students are protected. Mats have and always will be disinfected daily, just as training equipment is disinfected after each use.

We wish everyone to stay safe and healthy and hope to see you all training back at UMAC.
