Tonight, BSN heads speaks with Heritage Panthers head coach Mykel Benson for another edition of our Spring Football Recap Series.

Few coaches in Brevard County have faced more challenges over the last several seasons, yet few have continued to find ways to keep their teams competing at a high level year after year.

Entering his fifth season as head coach, Benson has established a culture built on toughness, accountability, and resilience — qualities that have helped the Panthers reach the playoffs in each of the last three seasons despite difficult schedules and constant roster turnover.

A former Florida A&M standout and Arena Football veteran, Benson brought a championship mentality to Heritage when he arrived, and that mindset continues to shape the program today.

The Panthers finished 4-7 in 2025, but the record only tells part of the story.

Heritage once again battled through one of the toughest schedules in Brevard County and still earned a postseason berth, proving the Panthers remain a team nobody wants to face when November arrives.

What has become clear under Benson is that Heritage doesn’t back down from challenges. Whether facing district rivals, playoff contenders, or rebuilding through graduation losses, the Panthers continue to compete with an edge that reflects their head coach.

Now entering Year Five, Heritage is looking to take the next step and turn hard-earned experience into wins.

Congratulations to Heritage Panther Amir Parker on his commitment to Blinn College to continue his academic and athletic career. Kid was unblock-able the last 2 seasons.
