Daiseki Dōjō

Daiseki Dōjō Daiseki Dōjō is a school of traditional, Japanese martial arts, including Yamate-ryū aikijutsu and Tenshin-ryū kenjutsu.

Daiseki Dōjō is a place for adults to pursue the classical martial arts and ways of Japan. Our primary arts are aikijutsu and kenjutsu. Aikijutsu, an unarmed martial art and precursor to aikido, is without a doubt the most fascinating of all martial arts; incredibly beautiful, almost magical. Kenjutsu, the art of swordsmanship, is the most highly respected of all Japanese martial arts. The curricu

lum also includes the study of related aspects of Japanese art, language and culture. We are part of a network of independent dojo throughout the country united by the particular arts that we practice. Previous martial arts experience is not required to study here. New students are carefully guided in their training to assure proper development and safety. Due to the serious nature of the training, a minimum age of 16 is required. Prospective students are required to schedule an appointment to watch at least one class before applying for membership.

Whenever we exit our comfort zone and try something new, a bit of nervousness and confusion is inevitable. This is especially true for an interested visitor or new student in a traditional dojo, as a dojo not only uses elements of a foreign culture and language, but also teaches techniques and strategies that have the potential to inflict damage. To lessen some of the unease that a prospective or new student may have, this article will introduce some of the things you will see and experience when visiting or beginning to train at our dojo.

Mr. Joshua M. Freeman (July 27, 1964- December 14,2006) was an Ittō Tenshin-ryū Renshi(ー刀天心流錬士), Yamate-ryū Sandan (山手流参段), and Goseki-ryu makideshi.

He gave selflessly. He understood what it meant to be a part of something greater than oneself—a rare quality.

Family man, businessman, philanthropist, and Green Beret.

We extend our sincere condolences to all whose lives he touched and our deepest sympathies to his family.

He maintained.
