The April 1975 edition of Vogue magazine carried this article on the benefits of better breathing. It featured 1st generation Pilates teacher Ron Fletcher.

An extract from the article reads as follows:

"Exercising" the breath is all part of exercising the body at Ron Fletcher's body contrology classes in Beverly Hills, California, where a variety of specially designed equipment is used for shaping up. Ron believes that without correct breathing to oxygenate the blood stream and stimulate the circulation no exercise can be totally beneficial. "We normally breathe so stingily our energy goes way down," he says. To obviate this, he has devised what he calls a
"breath mill" to help students, "many of whom have never been put in touch with their thoracic muscles, so important in breathing." Above, dancer Paula Kelly uses the "breath mill" before demonstrating the exercises on these pages. First, she breathes in to a count, then exhales slowly through a straw placed in the "mill" which reacts to the air like a miniature windmill.

CINDY HOUSTON PILATES CLIENT TESTIMONIAL:

🧘🌻I began my healing journey with Cindy Houston Pilates in December 2024, after suffering from chronic pain for four years following a serious car accident. I had tried so many therapies- physical, red light, massage, chiropractic care, and functional medicine but nothing brought me lasting relief. That all changed when I started attending Cindy’s Pain-Free Living classes.

I began with her MELT Method classes three times a week, which gently release fascia, the body’s connective tissue. GAME CHANGER! Within just five weeks, I felt well enough to add a Pilates class to my routine. These classes helped me rebuild my core and full-body strength, something I hadn’t been able to do in years. I gradually added more Pilates classes, and now, just five months later, I’m attending four classes a week!

Cindy also introduced a powerful new fascia release technique from Human Garage that has taken my healing to a whole new level. It’s truly a whole-body transformation. I never imagined I could feel this good again. One of my passions is mountain biking, which I had completely given up after the accident. I’m thrilled to say I went on my first ride last week!

Cindy truly cares about her clients’ physical and emotional well-being. Her approach is deeply holistic and personalized. I’ve been quietly journeying through something deeply transformative… and I’m finally ready to share it with you 💗

Over the past several months, I’ve been immersed in Level One of the Human Garage Fascia Maneuvers Coaching Certification, learning how to support the body’s natural healing by working with it as a pressurized system — where fascia, breath, and alignment hold the keys to health, flow, and emotional freedom.

This work is sacred. It’s rooted in the wisdom that our bodies already know how to heal — they just need the pressure to be released and realigned so the flow of energy and fluid can return. 🌊

This perspective is changing everything — from how we move, to how we breathe, to how we unwind years of tension, stress, and even stored emotional trauma.

I’m so excited to start weaving this into our healing space… and to begin offering more deeply restorative, fascia-based support alongside Pilates.

Construction on US 160 in downtown starts this Monday, March 24. If you're coming to your Pilates class, plan for some extra travel time to arrive on time!

Here are a few tips to make your trip smoother:
✔️ Expect Delays: Up to 15-minute delays with lane shifts and equipment on the road.
✔️ Alternative Routes: Try South Pagosa Blvd. to Hot Springs Blvd. or Cemetery Road to skip the construction zone.
✔️ Parking Options: If Towne Terrace is full, check out Lewis Street for extra parking.

Classes are still running at their regularly scheduled times, so no changes on our end—just plan ahead to arrive stress-free. And don’t forget, you can easily schedule your Pilates classes using our PushPress App for added convenience.
