There’s something special about the photo we take at the end of every Bamboo Fly Rod Building Class.

Since moving into our new downtown shop in May, we’ve had to switch up the traditional backdrop a bit — and the beautiful Tennyson sculpture has become part of the tradition. But what that photo represents hasn’t changed one bit.

Six days of craftsmanship.
The pride of holding a bamboo fly rod you built with your own hands.
New friendships and plenty of camaraderie.
Stories shared across the workbench.
Laughs, lessons, and memories that will be talked about long after everyone heads home.

By the time we take that final picture, it’s about so much more than the rod.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience summed up in a single photograph — and someday, we hope that rod and that picture become part of the stories your family tells, too.

Watching this wall come to life has been something special. 🎨🎣

What started as a blank space in our new workshop has evolved into a piece that feels like it has always belonged here.

A huge thank you to the incredibly talented Blue Haas for bringing the soul of the river into the heart of our workshop. The movement, the water, the mountains, the details — it feels right at home surrounded by bamboo, shavings, tools, and rods in the making.

This isn’t just a mural. It’s a pretty perfect backdrop for the craft we work every day to keep alive.

We’re lucky to have Blue’s art become a permanent part of PJ’s. ❤️

A picture really can’t do the 3D compass rose carving on this Amboyna Burl landing net justice.

The depth, detail, and grain are even better in person. Add in the black 15" net basket, mother-of-pearl PJ’s logo, and organic h**p net bag, and this one is pretty special.

Our handcrafted nets never seem to stick around for long.

And if you’ve ever built an Amboyna Burl grip rod with us… you should probably take a look at this one before it’s gone. 👀
