Paddle Express founder Sean Tracey is a Major League Baseball alumni and he has proprietary knowledge of the Colorado River basin from his years of adventures on Lake Mojave, Lake Mead, Lake Powell and Lake Havasu. This complex hydroelectric system has been built to run off of 15 million acre feet of water and unfortunately the river only produces 13.5 MAF. This deficiency creates chaos. The agreement states that 75MAF has to be delivered every 10 years to the lower 3 states and the upper 4 keep 7.5: 7.5x10 and that has happened. The future is uncertain however as this decade is not charting well, and the hinge water year of 25/26 has seen the worst numbers to date on Christmas Day in the 100 year Colorado River Compact Agreement. The 24/25 water year was the 5th worst so hopefully the backside of winter will bring more snow but Ocean currents and temperatures off of Northern Mexico waters is making a 4 corners “Red box” and the snow reports look less than ideal. The 7 states: Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California all have to reform the CRCA by mid February of 2026, and it’s going to be restructured around what actually is available compared to a projected amount.
