Our voice is powerful. It’s important in self defense. Teaching kids it’s ok to speak up is really important to us. Never push your child to hug someone they don’t know or maybe don’t like. Let them have control over who they show affection to. This helps teach them boundaries and that their own boundaries matter just like mine or yours.

We’ve been blessed to watch this young man grow up through the years. He is fiercely loyal and loves making us laugh. He has grown as a martial
Artist and basketball player. He’s given us a few heart attacks 🥴😂 and made us all realize how blessed we are to call him ours!

Character is built in the hard. It’s falling down and getting back up. Dusting yourself off and trying again and again. It’s built by being so tired and wanting to give up but there’s something inside you that refuses. It’s built by having people around you that support you and don’t allow you to give up. They push you. They cheer you on. And when you do fail, they help pick you up and teach you how to get better. Character isn’t built in 6 weeks. It’s built over time. Strength comes from something knocking you down and you just keep going. This isn’t something kids learn sitting in their rooms with “friends” online, this isn’t an instant dopamine rush. This teaches them that nothing worth having comes easy and they’ll have to work for it. This is a life lesson.

I hear parents say they just want their child
To have more confidence in themselves. I get it. I did too! Building confidence takes time. It’s not something that happens over night. They’ll doubt themselves over and over. Allowing them to quit when it gets hard does nothing for their confidence and self esteem. Quitting isn’t an option just because something is hard. Teach them that’s motivation for working harder.

We don’t care so much about your win as much as we care about the attitude you have when you win or when you lose. Teaching students that there is always a winner, and always a loser, is a huge life lesson in a world full of participation trophies. It’s ok to be upset when we lose. It’s not ok to throw their gloves or helmet, get mouthy with officials and be disrespectful. Learning to lose with dignity is a huge part in what we teach. We love when we win, like everyone else. But it’s how we act when we lose that determines character.
