Grumpy, moody, aggravated, maybe depressed-These are words some parents have used describing their kids. Sometimes it’s their environment. Are they constantly on screens? Parents- their screen time causes so much anxiety, stress, and behavior issues and we don’t even realize it. When we were kids, home could be a safe place. If we were getting bullied at school, or wherever, home was safe. It’s not when their bullies are all online. They need movement, face to face contact, and a community of people who truly care for them. They don’t need more time online with others who shame them or make them feel bad about themselves. Get them off screens and moving their bodies!

We all learn eventually, about true friendships. One of the hardest things about growing up is learning who supports us and who enjoys watching us fail. Find the people who cheer you on even when you’re not in the room. Find a community that challenges you, makes you think, wants you to see the better version of yourself and loves you for who you are.

The amazing thing about martial arts is as you move up in your belts, you see how you progress. You see where you started and recognize where you want to be. Then, when you get a black belt, you realize your journey just started! Mindset is everything. Growth doesn’t happen when things are easy.

Finding where she fits in, where she’s loved, where she can be herself, where what others think of her isn’t as important as what she thinks of herself. We are proud of how far she’s come and can’t wait to see her grow!

A disregulated adult can not regulate a disregulated child. They need to borrow from our calm. Sometimes a stern voice is needed, and sometimes grace is needed. Teaching discipline doesn’t mean we have to stand over them constantly, be the bad guy and constantly punish. It means lots of repetition, redirecting, consistency, and real consequences for actions. Teaching breathing techniques is one way we can help them regulate and be the calm in their storm.

It’s time to have some serious conversations about how much screen time our children are getting today. This little addiction has caused so many issues for kids. Their focus is non existent. Nothing seems to hold their attention. They miss out on building life skills, and educationally fall behind because learning to read takes repetition, focusing, and being able to control our bodies. We have to sit still for longer than 5 minutes to read a book. The screens offer instant gratification. So, when they have to wait their turn, be told no, practice something without getting frustrated, they struggle. They have more meltdowns, and some struggle with sleep, then struggle at school. Families need to get back to board games, playing outside, going on hikes, playing badminton in the backyard and just being more physically active. Put the screen away. It’s bc time to cut the WiFi cord 🤗😉
