Now is the right time for me to bring this cycling adventure to an end. Big Al's Bicycle Heaven bike shop here in Crested Butte will pack and ship my bike, and I'll fly home on Tuesday.

I've had a blast and am happy I'll be home in time to celebrate my 65th birthday with Tori and our family! September 11th was my originally planned date to be home.

Thank you to each of you who followed, reacted and commented to my updates! Knowing you were cheering for me brought many smiles and helped push me up those long climbs!

DAY 27 - Thursday 8/27 - 31 miles from Kebler Corner campground to Crested Butte, CO. Today's ride included lots of gravel and climbing and a nice 7-mile downhill into Crested Butte. And some free-range sheep. Taking a couple days off here to enjoy the mountain town.

DAY 26 - Wednesday 8/26 - 27 miles from Hotchkiss, CO, to Kebler Corner campground.

Between taking in the views and watching for bears, I wasn't paying too much attention to the ride itself. Before I knew it I was here at my cabin at this campground, located just before the start of tomorrow's 24-mile climb over Kebler Pass.

DAY 25 - Tuesday 8/25 - 32 miles from Delta to Hotchkiss, CO. Beautiful ride today as I headed into more mountainous terrain. About 20 miles of climbing with grades up to 9% and a fun 8-mile descent into Hotchkiss.

Cell coverage will get spotty to nonexistent over the next several days, so my daily updates may be delayed.

DAY 24 - Monday 8/24 - 24 miles from Montrose to Delta, CO. Today was an easy, mostly downhill ride to Delta where I'll drop in on the Golden Gravel Trail tomorrow to start my eastward trek across the Rockies.

DAY 21 - Friday 8/21 - 20 miles from Coalville to Kimball Junction, UT.
Today's ride was 15 miles on the Union Pacific Rail Trail that runs along I-80, then 5 miles on paved bike paths near Park City, a very bicycle-friendly city.

With temperatures forecasted around 100⁰ along my route over the next week or two, I've decided it wouldn't be prudent to ride through the desert. So I'm going to drive ahead to Montrose, Colorado, and will restart riding from there in a few days.

DAY 20 - Thursday 8/20 - 47 miles from Evanston, WY, to Coalville, UT. I thought I was riding in the desert today, but later learned the area gets a little too much rain. It's technically a semi-arid cold steppe rather than a true desert. Sure felt like the summer desert to me! On the GGT today, the route included a gentle 13-mile climb followed by a fun 28-mile mostly downhill all the way into Coalville.

DAY 19 - Wednesday 8/19 - 37 miles from Randolph, UT, to Evanston, WY. The highlight of today's ride was meeting a group of 5 guys riding the Golden Gravel Trail westbound. They call themselves the Dragon Riders and started in Pueblo, CO, on 8/2.

DAY 18 - Tuesday 8/18 - 71 miles from Montpelier, ID, to Randolph, UT. Today's ride was 40 miles of relatively flat, smooth, paved roads as I road south into Utah. The remaining 30 miles was steep climbing up gravel roads and dirt trails, followed by an exhilarating miles-long descent on some rough gravel into the small town of Randolph, UT. It was quite an adventure.

DAY 16 - Sunday 8/16 - 31 miles from Soda Springs to Montpelier, ID. More nice weather and scenery to ride through today, with a little rain and headwinds. There is a lot of history in this area as I ride along what was once the California and Oregon Trails in the Pioneer days of the 19th century (https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/california-oregon-trail/).
Monday will be a rest day in Montpelier, and on Tuesday I'll be riding into Utah on the GGT.
