Being a guardian and protector begins by daily living and training as a warrior.

Just saying you are doesn't work, it is a lifestyle and it is a mindset.

It is about rising above yourself and your self imposed limitations.

Don't be a stereotype, Don't label yourself, and Don't let others label you.

Increase your knowledge, change your attitude and how you perceive others in your daily life, pay attention to the little things, observe your surroundings, and stay focused on what is important at this moment.

Be nice, be professional, and serve others needs, instead of focusing on your own. Make a difference in someone else's life and you'll make a difference in your own.

I think the word survival is a good acronym to think upon, digest, and integrate.

S-size up the situation.
U-use your senses, undue haste makes waste.
R- remember where you are.
V-vanquish all pain, fear, and panic.
I-initiate a plan, improvise when necessary.
V-value living.
A-act like the natives.
L-live by your wits, and learn new skills.

Most importantly...

Just breathe!!!

Keep Learning, Keep Moving, Keep Growing, Love One Another, and Never Become Stagnant, a Statistic, or a Stereotype. Meditate Daily!!!

Everything is about fundamentals and then pushing past your individual skill envelope.

If all you ever do is square range drills and no real world goals in mind, you are not only unable to present an answer but you have totally missed the question.

Be mindful and in the moment, purpose driven, and goal oriented.

I have had the pleasure (as most instructors have also experienced) of learning from a plethora of awesome teachers, coaches, and instructors who not only know their craft but also highly skilled in how they present information to keep the class engaged.

Those are the educators that you look upon as mentors and you want to be that good.

I have also participated in train wrecks where as the instructor was not engaging, had poorly executed curriculum, lack of training aids, and you came out of it feeling short changed for your time. I've learned from them as well on what not to do.

And I have also been present when instructors are just having a bad day. Bad days occur when an instructor doesn't sleep well before a presentation, doesn't feel well possibly due to not sleeping well, upset stomach, etc. Or instructor Murphy decides to screw with location, technology, equipment, etc. I have most definitely been that instructor on many accounts and it's humbling.
You pull up the boot straps, get your head right, get motivated, put on a smile, apologize, and get everyone's energy up!!!

So why do I write this?

The majority of my students are self-motivated, open minded, and ready to learn. That's an awesome thing.

I have had plenty of closed minded students who paid me to come tell me what they know and/or learned elsewhere. I am pretty cordial an will typically let them know that I would be happy to discuss this during a break or schedule a different time when they could come show me but right now other's are here to learn what information I am presenting.

I also had the non-participants or barely a participant who wants to stand by and watch every evolution but doesn't want to join in or the one who joins in but zero effort and is a training distraction. I have had to have side bar conversations with these folks and I have removed them from training as well.

But the far worst is the attendee who wants to s**t talk other instructors or training companies. I am quick to shut this down this unprofessional and ungentlemanly behavior. Just because you've had a bad experience does not mean is was the instructors fault, maybe your a p**s poor student.

Maybe the instructor is having a bad day?

Maybe you signed up for a class you was not mentally or physically ready to attend?

Maybe you didn't come to class with an open mind and instead had preconceived ideas on what you thought worked and cannot allow yourself to question the viability or discard?

Either way. I do not tolerate bulls**t adolescent behavior or drama in my class. If you want to s**t talk an instructor go elsewhere, very likely their my friend or acquaintance.

The level of student proficiency is directly proportional to the instructors training psychology and system design.

Subsequently, instructors have a moral and legal obligation to constantly research methods to enhance training and, ultimately, the survival of their students.

Great day off with a bar b que, bon fire and gathering of my Brother and Sister Warriors of the Stick and Blade.

Careers, opportunities and relocation out of Missouri over the past couple years has reduced this once 27 member group of professionals to a mere 3 of us. So it was nice to get the whole group out together once again today to work on everything combatives and shooting in a 14 hour class.

This will be the last get together like this probably for a very very long time.

We made it special.

Just breathe!!!

Once again I see the internet, specifically the video content makers regurgitating things that have been done for years and then once again claim ownership.

I had the absolute pleasure to attend a point shooting course in 1989 at Glynco, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center taught by legendary instructor Rex Applegate. Many of my instructors trained in Applegate's method combined with other modern methods.

Like many things the concept of point shooting gets lost in translation when people are pushing their ideas or products and not understanding the information presented in it's entirety.

The real answer is you should be highly skilled in point shooting and highly skilled in focused front sight shooting interchangeably if you duty carry or carry for defense.

There are many ways to learn this and make it instinctual. But if you don't put into practice and hard work you will not reap the dividends.

That's about all I have to say on this matter.

Wrapping up a very early day out on the range for an high intensity integrated combat functional fitness/low light shoot. Several evolutions through the shoot house as well, ranging from warrant service to active killer.

Definitely a blast!!!

It has been an awesome day with some great warriors.
We finished up day 3 with more skill development on ditch medicine, fighting knife, knife defense, tactical pistol/rifle, CQC-CQB w/FoF, building search/clearing.

We definitely put in a lot of sweat and long hours to get this and more in and around some busy schedules.

Very appreciated to present the material to such an amazing group.
