Coach Feature of the Day: Meet Coach Kirsten Marie, who coaches our Age Group team and 11-12 Intermediate Team!
My name is Kirsten Wendth and I am thrilled to begin my first year of coaching for 5280 Synchro after a recent relocation from Boston, Massachusetts.
I have over four years of combined collegiate and age group level coaching experience and I swam competitively for 12 years. I was a member of Wheaton College's Synchronized Swimming Team from 2009-2013, during which time I earned four top-ten finishes at U.S. Collegiate Championships. I also received three U.S. Synchro All-Collegiate honors and was named to the U.S. Synchro Swimming Collegiate All-Academic team all four years. I served as a Wheaton College Athletic Mentor during my sophomore, junior, and senior years, and I was named the National Collegiate Athlete Representative for United States Synchronized Swimming during my sophomore year.
Following college graduation, I quickly grew eager to remain involved in the synchro community. While completing my masters in clinical social work at Simmons College in Boston, I served as an assistant coach for Wheaton College and also provided choreography assistance and coaching consultation to the YWCA Synchro Maids of Central Massachusetts.
I have a deep-rooted commitment to grass roots level synchro. My team (formerly known as the Capital District YMCA Sculpins in Upstate, NY) provided me with the athletic training and character development that served as a platform for future achievements and athletic pursuits. I hope to motivate our swimmers to experience rewards that come from hard work, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of their goals.
