Swayze Crazies at O-U Stadium

Our next two recruits for the Class of 22 are a couple of righty throwers from California in Brady Disbro and Sam Tookoian.

Brady Disbro is a 6'3" 220 lb righty out of Dana Point, Ca. Disbro has an extra large athletic frame with broad shoulders and is a strong body to put on the mound. Brady has a side step delivery with a belt-high leg lift. He has a shorter, online arm action from a 3/4s arm slot. Disbro's 92 mph fastball has running life to the arm side that he pounds the zone with. Brady also has a 83 mph slider that has tight spin and late life. What makes his slider so dangerous is Disbro's ability to keep the arm speed up and the release to match his fastball. As we have seen with pitchers like Josh Mallitz, a two-pitch mix can be extremely effective when the pitcher makes few mistakes and locates consistently.

Our next Cali righty Sam Tookoian is a 6'5" 225 lb extra large frame as well with well-proportioned strength throughout. Sam starts on the 1B side of the rubber, turn step move into the delivery with a high leg kick above the belt. He gets tall on the backside and brings an online delivery extending over his front side. Tookoian has a 92 mph fastball that he fills up the zone with and occasionally shows some life to the arm side. Sam throws a 11-5 curveball at 73 mph that he has a feel for landing when he needs it most. Tookoian also has a 83 mph changeup that he will throw occasionally to close out his three-pitch mix.

Both of these young West Coasters will bring size, strength, and a different look that should have both adding to the depth in next year's rotation and/or bullpen. As we saw this season, depth is the key as you move through the season, but it's even more important in the postseason.

Two of the new incoming recruits from the heralded Class of 2022 are Grayson Saunier and James Smith.

Grayson Saunier is 6'4" 190 lb RHP out of Collierville, Tn. Saunier is the top pick coming out of Tennessee in 2022, and that's not surprising because of the stars like Zach Cozart and Drew Pomeranz come out of Collierville to the MLB by way of Ole Miss and Head Coach Mike Bianco. Grayson has an 88-90 mph fastball that will max out at 94, with some arm-side run to it. With Saunier's frame, it is easy to see why pro scouts have been a keeping on him because he is projected to gain another 3-7 mph on the fastball alone. Grayson also has two distinct breaking balls in a upper 70s slider and a mid 70$ curve that both have tight spin. His final pitch is a swing-and-miss fading changeup in the upper 70s. Look for Saunier to be one our potential pitching surprises next year if he works hard and adds velo to his fastball early. Coaches will be evaluating from Day 1 to bring Saunier into the game.

James Smith is a 6'4" 185 lb infielder from Olive Branch. Smith's defensive skills are a 60/60, and he has the range and arm to play any position on the left side of the infield. James can also play anything in the outfield and pitch should his number be called. Regardless of where he uses the gaps and anything he can do to get on bases where he runs a 4.33 s 30 yd dash. James will be properly described as a "run-TAKER" with his speed and ability to get on base.

Our two Class of 2022 commits that we look today are Wilburn Furniss and Bryce Dolby.

Wilburn Furniss is a INF that a highly rated elite college prospect rated a 9.5 out of 10. The 6'4" 210 lb Furniss throws right and bats left, and he is from Nacodoches, TX. Wilburn hits from a slightly open stance with a long leg lift as a trigger. Furniss has a very strong lower half with plenty of room to add on strength for more power. Wilburn has a long, strong movement through the zone, and hits to all fields. Furniss can turn the barrel over on the inside half or he can showcase his power to the opposite field home run as well.

Bryce Dolby is a 6'5" 205 lb RHP out of Ashburn, Va who again was rated very highly by Perfect Game at a 9 out of 10. Dolby has an extra large frame with plenty of room to add strength once he gets to Oxford. Bryce throws from a high 3/4s arm slot with good extension out front. Dolby has a sidestep with a highleglift above the belt with a full arm stroke. Bryce's fastball tops out at 92 mph but is expected to have more in the tank to pick that velo up a bit more once he learns to use his loose arm motion under Coach Bianco and Coach Laff. Dolby has an ideal shape that projects have into the upper 70s and uses a changeup over nicely. With a bit more work and time in the trading facility, Bryce will be a strong asset potentially out of the pen initially, but he has the projectability of finding his way into the starting rotation at some point.

Today, we take a look at two more members of the class of 2022 in RHP Jordan Vera and INF Mason Morris.

Jordan Vera is a 6'3" 205 lb righty out of Plantation, Fl. Vera throws a 95 mph fastball with good life that jumps on hitters. Jordan's slider has two-plane shape with bite. Vera also has a fading changeup that is above average. Jordan works with a quick tempo on the mound, and he pounds the bottom of the zone. Vera is rated as an elite college prospect by Perfect Game that could end up as a high draft pick. Look for him to pick up a couple of notches on his fastball as he adds more muscle to his frame.

Mason Morris is a 6'5" 230 lb righty out of Tupelo, Ms. Morris has an extra large frame and has projects as the left side of the infield. Mason was a shortstop at Tupelo High School, but he does have the arm for the hot corner. At the plate, Morris has a high hand set with a double tie tap trigger. He loads his bat back and produces a smooth powerful swing that has plenty of power. Morris is also rated as an elite college player with high draft pick potential by Perfect Game.

This week we'll take a look at our Diamond Rebs and where we believe that they will find their place on the 2023 squad. We will start with 2 of the most heralded recruits in this year's class in LHP Jackson Ferris and OF Roman Anthony.

Jackson Ferris is a highly touted lefty out of IMG Academy who has a full arsenal at his disposal. Ferris's fastball is 92-95 mph and has a deceptive delivery to say the least. Jackson has a 12-to-6 curveball in the mid 70s that plays very well off of his fastball. Ferris also has a tumbling changeup in the mid to upper 80s that falls off of the map and is an excellent swing-and-miss pitch. Ferris also is always experimenting with grips and deliveries to manipulate the pitch just enough to keep the offense guessing. Jackson is highly regarded as the best lefty in the 2022 draft, however, his stock has fallen over the course of the season. When the college season started, Ferris was rated as high as a No. 4 selection in the draft, but in recently updated mock drafts, he has dropped from No. 17 to No. 30 by the most respected publications. The reason for this in my estimation is the abundance and backlog of outstanding players in the college ranks waiting to fill up the board in the first couple of rounds. Ferris is going to go high in the draft, but.if he falls to No. 30 or even day 2 of the draft, will he take the money or come to Ole Miss who has a ton of momentum with. He would place in the weekend rotation without a doubt and create one helluva one-two punch with Hunter Elliott. This is assuming that DeLucia goes in the draft (more on the expected draftees next week). We would have a pitching staff with plenty of experience at the highest level, and Jackson Ferris would solidify the starting rotation even further.

Roman Anthony is a lefty outfielder who is another highly rated star that can go in the draft. He is a strong fielder which the Rebs could use with the graduation of Kevin Graham and Hayden Leatherwood. At the plate is where Anthony can make his money. Roman has nothing short of raw power from the left side. Anthony is rated anywhere between No. 57 and No. 59 in most mock drafts. In my opinion, that is not high enough to miss out on the opportunity to come to Ole Miss. Unless he is in need of the money, I don't see him going pro yet. If you look at any mock drafts, you will see several college outfielders in the first round. To me, that is good enough of an argument to convince me to come to Oxford.
