Why do we do step ups and lunges after our long runs? Why do we spend a few sessions a week on the stepmill? Building fatigue resistance and muscular endurance, that’s why! One of the biggest take aways from this past weekend’s 43 mile hike with 14k elevation gain was that all of that consistency paid off. My legs never felt fatigued. They weren’t even sore the next day. How is that possible? Consistently pushing my legs to work a little extra when they were tired was a game changer. At the same time, you also need to know when to rest. The key is to find that balance of working hard, but not pushing to injury. What I did:
1. After every long run, 100 step ups and 100 lunges (later on I added jump squats and calf raises too)
2. Step mill work 3-4 times per week for 20-25 minutes each time.
Most of our long runs also included lots of climbing too. I’m so excited that it paid off! Who else does something similar? Have you noticed a difference?

Medal Monday is here! Races are beginning to slow down just a bit, as the weather begins to turn warmer. This weekend, Chrissi ran the Run the Bluegrass 10k in Lexington, Kentucky. This event offers distance options of a 5k, 10k or half marathon, all of which run alongside beautiful horse farms. Congrats!

Legs up the wall is one of my favorite poses right after a run or after being on my feet for a long time. It helps improve circulation, allows blood to flow back to the heart, which helps reduce swelling in the legs and ankles. It’s super easy to do too. Sit sideways to a wall and get as close as you can to it. Then, swing the legs up and rest there for anywhere from 5-10 minutes. Hamstrings tight? You can elevate the hips a bit with a cushion or yoga block under your hips. Have you tried this pose? Has it helped you?
