This post is in response to a conversation with a player on why we have so many patterns and combinations in the ball control module of the app.
Our philosophy on skill training is about coaching athleticism into the skill sessions (control of the ball under your body while also controlling your body around the ball). This athleticism approach in high repetition combos, leads to automated patterns (think sprint drills - not really speed training, but high repetition of components of speed).
This automated approach allows players to shift their attention to tactical awareness because they are not thinking about how to get their body under control or what skill they are going to perform.
This all comes together as quick, athletic creativity and efficient tactical decisions or speed of play.
