We are soooooo excited for next Saturday (12/22). It’s the Ouray Trojans vs. the Montrose Special Olympics Hotshots.

It’s, literally, my favorite game of the year. Entry is free and donations are gleefully accepted. All funds raised go to support the Hotshots.

We will play at the Ouray High School Saturday afternoon (12/22) at noon.

If you’re in town, please come up. It’s one of the most heartwarming basketball games you’ll see.”

The Ouray Girls Basketball Program finished up their June skills and team camp season this week with 13 games over 6 days at the Delta and Western State team camps; gaining invaluable experience and knowledge while playing, save one game, above our 1A classification all week.

It wasn't all basketball, of course! They got some nice bonding in over movies, sushi, rafting and just hanging out together. It was particularly wonderful to hear all the laughter and feel and see a strong sense of team chemistry begin to develop this past week.

There is a great deal of potential we'll tap into between now and late-November. Our young team is quite a fiery and determined bunch. We think they're going to be a great deal of fun to watch this year!

The ladies, after a short respite, will turn back to their regularly scheduled strength training and skill development ... because these players know that improvement and the chance to win do not happen during the 4-month season alone [cue both coaches wiping away tears of happiness 😅].

Go Trojans!

The Trojans just finished up a 2-day team camp with a strong performance.

Our young and fiery ladies went toe-to-toe with two 3A and one 5A varsity teams yesterday. They took their lumps, as any 1A should against those foes, and came out stronger today, winning two of three against larger school JV teams.

Big improvement all weekend from these fighters. We have soooooo much potential for this coming season. Cannot wait for the Winter!

Last week the Ouray Boys Basketball team got their off-season started right with Midwest Elite Basketball.

Here are the boys working to build the program. 7th grade through seniors at MEB Skills Camp 2018!

Hello Trojanland ... I have some exciting news to share.

The Montrose Hot Shots recently competed in their State tournament in Denver and brought home the silver!

I feel a lot better about our loss to them in December now that they've won silver ;)

Thanks, again, to our players, parents, and fans, who came out to support the Hot Shots at our annual event. Best event of the year, too.

CONGRATULATIONS AND GO HOT SHOTS!

Well, the 2017-18 Season is now officially in the books with all the State tournaments having ended yesterday.

As we at Ouray Basketball prepare to sign off for the season and start to turn our attentions to the 2018-19 Season, we wanted to take a moment today, the first day we're allowed to do so, and congratulate the Trojan players who received San Juan Basin League (SJBL) All-Conference Awards.

GIRLS:
Congratulations are in order for Courtney Alvarez and Lauren Fairchild.

Courtney, who finished her high school career with her best overall season, by far, was placed on the SJBL All-Conference Second Team. Not only was her senior campaign her best to date, she improved steadily throughout the year, finishing with her 4 best games ever down the stretch. Way to go, Court! We will miss you next year :(

Lauren, who took an incredible leap in her play between her sophomore and junior seasons, led us all year and the other coaches knew it (and game-planned entirely for her). Yet, they could not stop her. She was named to the SJBL All-Conference First Team. Additionally, she came in third in the Player of the Year voting, behind the top two finishers from last year! Great job, Lauren! It is a well-deserved recognition.

We are so proud of both of these fine ladies. They were wonderful leaders and representatives for our program. Thank you, Court and Lauren!

BOYS:
Not to be outdone by the ladies, the boys received some nice love as well and congratulations are in order for Sam Tyler and Zach Briggs.

Sam, who barely played as a freshman and did not play at all his sophomore and junior years, was a lynchpin for the boys. He size and athleticism made him a tough cover all year long and he was rewarded with being named to the SJBL All Conference Second Team. It was remarkable to watch what he could do given he hadn't played in 2+ years ... the boys will definitely miss him next year. Way to go, Sam!

Zach, who may well be one of the toughest players we've had in Ouray in a number of years, did nothing but work his tail off on offense and, especially, on defense all year. When the boys were flowing, Zach was typically found running his tail off up and down the court and shutting down the opposing team's top guard. He was rewarded with an SJBL All Conference Honorable Mention. Way to go, Zach. It was super-fun watching you go at it this year!

Thank you, all, for your support! It was a fun season to be sure. All the coaches are excited to get back on the court and start prepping for 2018-19!

Go Trojans!

Unfortunately, the Trojans seasons came to an end yesterday in Parachute.

The boys battled a solid North Park team but came up just short.

The girls ran into a peaking, top-15 team (also from North Park) and just couldn’t keep up with the Wildcats.

While a season ending loss in Districts always hurts, both programs had very productive and encouraging seasons.

The boys, over the last two years, have graduated 8 very good players but really grew over the season and have set themselves up for much success next season with a huge freshmen class coming in.

The girls, having lost 75% of their offense and 4 of their top 5 defenders and picked to finish at the bottom of the league, worked their tails off all year, improved dramatically and not only finished with a winning record but ended up third in the league! We expect more improvement next year and they’re already chomping at the bit to get to the offseason work!

Thank you, all, for the support this year! It was such a fun season and you all had a huge part in that!

Big, big, big thanks to the crowd tonight. It made a huge difference for the girls, who won their playoff game, 40-32.

The girls move onto the semis in Parachute in Friday versus North Park.

I’ll post a detailed event tomorrow morning for the two Ouray games.

Thanks again and GO TROJANS!!!!

REMINDER:
The 1A District 1 playoffs kick off today in Ouray with the Varsity Girls hosting Nucla in a Quarterfinal game (i.e., the pigtail).

Ouray vs. Nucla

Varsity Girls tip at 5:00 PM

Winner advances to meet 1-seed North Park on Friday in Parachute at Grand Valley High School.

Hope to see you at our gym tonight.

Go Trojans!

SURPRISE!!!! We Now Have One More Home Game!

Despite having the third best record out of the 5 1A teams in our district (1A District 1), the Ouray girls have to play in a pigtail as the #4 seed thanks to the ridiculousness of CHSAA's RPI.

But, it is what it is and we get another game to play so we'll just go out and do our best to kick butt.

District Quarterfinal (i.e., the pigtail)
This is a playoff game! So, it's now the win or your season ends time of year. It also means we must charge CHSAA pricing and it will be $8 for adults at the door.

Ouray vs. Nucla (Varsity Girls)

District Semis
The boys will be the 2-seed at Districts and will take on North Park on Friday at 4:30 PM at Grand Valley High School.

Should the girls beat Nucla on Wednesday, they will advance to the District semifinals on Friday, also played at Grand Valley, at 6:00 PM (against 1-seed North Park.

I will post more detailed information on the Friday Districts game(s) on Wednesday night after the girls game concludes.

SUPPORT THOSE GIRLS!
The girls - and coaches - would LOVE to see a nicely packed gym to support the girls as they look to push forward toward back-to-back Regional appearances and, perhaps, our first trip to State in 17 years.
