Sound on!!! Let’s listen to a sound of frustration when all the expectations are being broken across the fear, ego, and desire to prove. I was making my way through the crux points to the top. Magic happened, I flew, unfortunately downward.

Imagine, this blue chair as an abstract person who I would've blamed for this failure and told him I fell accidentally, that’s your guilt and I’m better than all of them.

The truth of life is that simple, when you focused on everything but not on what you must do at the moment then what’s left afterward. There’s a blue chair is waiting for you to blame.

Awfully funny, I mean my behavior, I didn’t have to take myself too seriously. It happened and I’m happy that nobody was hurt. So let’s laugh together, look at it as a part of the show.

Durango, the US 2016.

Taking on the podium in Durango was a joyful moment in my ice climbing life, yes it was quite something. At that moment desperate happiness was feeling me in. Friends, all people were cheering me up and were happy with me. Maxim told - «Eventually, you did it!».

I took it, my first gold medal in world cups, had it been a long way with a sacrifice, ups and downs, probably joy and the knowledge that I would've got the gold after all the years?

Gold sucks, I still think I have to give this gold medal to the organisers, especially to Markus Garsia. I don’t know how my gold resonates with his effort to make the event happened, with his will to fight against all the circumstances he'd faced.

We all had lots of doubts to go to Durango. There were so many signs that Durango competition would be canceled and when we arrived the wall looked small and miserable.

Truly fantastic what they'd done. The organisers, the route-setters, the volunteers is the authentic gold of Durango. My opinion, if there hadn’t been Durango competition, no the Denver show would’ve happened after all.

Dream big!

Kirov, Russian championship 2009.

I love to mention about climbers by whom I’m inspired and not to tell about her one of my biggest supporters and obviously a tremendously good friend. Thanks to the photo you can easily guess this is Mariam. We’ve known each other since, I try to remember, I was 17 or 18 years old.

So to tell that she is a strong very determined climber, a mother of two awfully nice kids and a beautiful woman, so everyone knows I hope. I want to tell you by what I’m really impressed this is her ability be at the present moment and enjoy it.

It doesn’t matter if we have a pillow fight or I have a matter and need a philosopher with whom I may have a glass of wine and reflex on what concerns me at the certain moment. She’s sincere, with a unique sense of humour and innate sense of life.

It’s dangerous to be friends with this intelligent girl. You have to be pretty honest if you want she trust you but that worth it.

Ouray ice festival 2020. What does it mean to you «Ice climbing»?

Most people imagine a guy climbing on an icefall using that fancy staff like ice axes, crampons and obviously a helmet. That’s true, there’s lots of ice down there. Look carefully at the competition walls, sometimes there’s no ice on them and then you get confused. Why Ice climbing, honestly?! When I started sport of Ice climbing it used to be lots of ice. Structures were covered in ice and shone in the sun, that was fun.

Nowadays it’s Winter gymnastics and to arrange all the strongest climbers to climb on ice is not enough. There must be steep walls with slippery holds, crazy big volumes, swinging barrels, all for a show. It’d better to accept the name «Ice climbing», one reason it sounds beautiful and cool.

But what do you think?

Daone, Italy 2010. This climber is Evgeny Kryvosheytsev, a strong rock climber, an ice climbing legend. He certainly has shaped the sport of ice climbing and brought lots of significant things in it. He has inspired me and gave me some advice the way to train to get better in competing. I’ve always been admired by his climbing style and attitude, his ability to be focused on certain things when he climbs a final in Ice climbing world cups or another hard project on rocks.

Ouray ice festival 2020. It was like a dream, a nice Wonderfull dream. Let me tell you what kind of idea had come to me to get to Ouray. I could tell a lot kind of bu****it about fatigue from World cups or of loss of my motivation. Frankly it is in some ways but the idea. The idea was to go to the ocean, see sunset and have a whiskey bottle with my best friend. Maxim told me we have to go to the ice festival then after we can go to the ocean make my dream come true. I’ve had a good time in Ouray, met nice people. Here in Ouray I can say, ice climbing is alive. Ph. Max Owens
