Hey everyone, when I posted the situation about the event that took place with a couple of E-Foilers. It wasnā€™t meant to created hatred. It was to open a discussion about how we can co-exist in our respective communities. Iā€™ll be the first to say, even though Iā€™m an old school longboarder, I enjoy watching Foilers do what they do. The glide that they create, the ease of harnessing the energy of the ocean. There are many people who a really good Foilers and are safe and respectful. itā€™s unfortunate that just a couple people can create so much animosity. The question becomes, how to educate safety, responsibility, respect in the lineup for everyone. Thereā€™s more than enough room for everyone to enjoy the ocean.

Hello Everyone, Iā€™d like to open this up for discussion. In my eyes, if youā€™re on a E-foil buzzing through the lineup youā€™re creating a very unsafe situation. Iā€™ve attached a video of one of my employees surfing at sunset today. As you can see, lineup is pretty empty. Yet look how close they came to hitting them. The Foilers let them know not to worry and drop in on them if needed. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Thereā€™s 5 miles of open beach to play, why do this? Am I missing something? Guess they were reckless enough to hit the sandbar on a small wave. I know some Foilers who would never do this and are always looking out for others and I totally respect them and are actually fun to watch. Iā€™m just afraid that at some point thereā€™s going to be a bad situation where someone is going to get hurt really bad and then itā€™ll ruin it for everyone.

Today we had 2 situations take place here at Otter Rock.
1) surfer loses board to a broken leash and was sucked out in the rip beyond the point. Another surfer on a longboard paddled out to help. They both get sucked out too, but managed to get to the swimmer. Both get pushed down 2-300 yards before a larger wave breaks behind them and pushes them to shore.
2) Shortboarder paddles out at the same time, unaware of situation, gets sucked out way outside and pulled 1/4 mile down the beach. They finally was able to make their way back in after a huge set breaks way outside to wash them in.
Conclusion: study the conditions, come to the shop and ask before paddling out. Today turned rough really fast, rip currents were extremely bad. Thereā€™s always another day, but one bad decision, there might not be one. Be Smart, Be Aware, Be Safe!!
