Mosquito Run Distance Ride

Wahoo!! Mosquito Run is less than a week away! Still time to pre-register which is a huge help for Ride Management. You don't have to pay up front, you can select pay by check and pay at the ride with a check or cash. If you do intend to pay with a card, please do so when you pre-register as we will not take credit cards at the ride, although we can make Venmo or PayPal work if needed.

Camping is easy - no reservations required! Primitive camping (no electric sites), but plenty of water for your horses! Tie to your trailer, put up a pen or there are limited stalls available on a first come, first served basis.

Cell service is good at camp and throughout the park.

Trails are a mix of grass, sand with some gravel and is considered to be barefoot friendly. There is a mix of open prairie and wooded trails with gently rolling hills. This is a great park for your first longer distance, whether that means a 25 or 30 mile ride, or your first 50!

All holds in camp with easy access to your trailer during the holds.

the 50 will be 3 loops, with 2 holds.

Don't forget about our potluck dinner! Fried chicken is the main course and our riders never disappoint with a variety of delicious dishes and desserts!

Mosquito is just around the corner! Time to pre-register! We have a 30 mile LD and Competitive on Saturday, along with a 50 mile competitive and endurance along with a drive and a novice ride. Plenty of options for everyone! Thinking about the AHA Nationals - maybe the 50 competitive is something to check out to see if you are ready?
We have a good variety of events for you to try out!
Thinking about your first 50? Crow Hassen is a great park to give it a shot! Rolling hills, through meadows, prairies and woodlands. Good footing and a nice variety of conditions. All holds in camp with easy access to your campsite. It's a great place to check out the longer distances - mid season so your horse is in condition and ready to go!

Shame on me!!! I missed Diane Thorsen Merz as a volunteer at Mosquito Run! Diane is a key member of our distance family, one who volunteers at almost every ride! She was there at 5:30am to help vet in riders and she helps manage the vet area and train new volunteers! I am so very sorry Diane! I should know better than to post something when I'm tired without proofing it before hitting post! You are a rock star in our sport!!

Another Mosquito Run is in the books! We had 98 riders over the course of 2 days. Trails were beautiful and the weather cooperated.

Huge thank you to our vets, Dr Bonnie Miller and Dr Allie Delheimer! We had lots of volunteers: Heidi, Michelle, Ken, Theresa, Holly, Bob, Jenny, Piper, Audrey, Ruby, Jacki, Michelle and Elizabeth Miller, and people ready to jump where we needed like Paula G and Paula B! Nice to know there is such a great team of people who are willing to help. If I forgot someone - my apologies and please know your help and support is appreciated!

We had novice riders on both days with a mix of brand new and more experienced riders. The novices all came back to camp with smiles on their faces! Thank you to our Novice leaders, Jenny, Katie, Jessi, and Toni.

I also need to thank my partners who work with me to put on this ride! Sarah Kieser, Sarah Kieser, Joan Elbert, and Sharon Hahn! Special thanks to my husband Greg, along with our granddaughters, Ruby, Piper and Audrey who helped set up in the beginning, made sure the water tanks were full and worked through the heat to tear down at the end. Couldn't do it without all of you!

Reminder for those coming to Mosquito Run for the first time - if you google directions to the Crow Hassen Dog Park it will bring you to the campground. That is the most reliable way to get directions to the campground. The campgound is across the road from the dog park and you will see our ride signs to guide you in!
