Chicken Wing League was discussed in the spring of 2012, after our Thursday night bowling league at McGillicuddy's in Mexico ended for the season. The team that consisted of Jay, Barry, Corey, and Mark, decided that we didn't like bowling as much as we liked just getting together and snacking on some wings and beer. While they may have been kidding, the decision was made after racing season to "ru
n with it". The two biggest advantages of Chicken Wing League (CWL) over a bowling league are:
1. You get to cruise around to different places, instead of the same place every Thursday night.
2. The amount of participants are unlimited, while bowling league is usually for only four people. Weekly standings are updated based only on attendance, not performance, just like the Eagles Fan Club. You show up near the start time (usually 7:00), you eat, you visit, you hang out, you get a point. In some instances, half points have been awarded for someone who showed up late, or didn't eat, but still was entitled to at least some recognition. In one instance, a player's half point was increased to a full point because it was the contestant's birthday. In another instance, a contestant forfeited a half point by not eating, and "wearing a puss". Points are awarded at the discretion of the USCWL by-laws, the CWL committee, or sometimes just the whim of the scorekeeper. CWL is definitely co-ed, and you are not (usually) judged if you don't attend. You also are not judged for not eating wings. Most locations have other food available. (However, you may be subject to a smirk, a knowing glance, or maybe a slow clap among some of the organizers or points leaders if you order a "salad".) Sorry - that's just how it is. But don't worry - we'll most likely do it behind your back, where you won't even see it. Anyone and everyone is invited to CWL, so spread the word. The more the merrier! Bring a friend. Even if they may order "salad". (Snicker snicker...) It's just about getting together and having some laughs. So far we've had 12-24 people on a given Thursday night. And please feel free to post your Chicken Wing League pictures! NEW INFORMATION: For the 2014 -15 season, CWL's THIRD season, we have taken a vote and moved it to Wednesday nights this year. (Occasional Thursdays are also a possibility, to accommodate our Thursday night voters.) Let's get some wings!
