UCF Baja SAE

UCF Baja SAE We are the Society of Automotive Engineers Baja Team at the UCF. We design and build off-road vehicl Feel free to contact us or just stop by!

Thank you for your interest in the Baja team of the Society of Automotive Engineers at UCF. Our goal is to build a car to compete in SAE’s international Baja competitions. Along the way you will learn a lot of applied engineering principles along with learning the mechanics of how to build one of these cars from the ground up. The majority of the components are fabricated 100% in house with only a

few exceptions. All members will have a chance to get involved in every step of the process from design to completion. The competition will give you a chance to compete in an intercollegiate and international setting with teams from as far away as Canada, South America, and India. It was founded on the principle of challenging students to work as a team to design, build, manufacture, promote, and raise funds for a new product to the consumer market. All teams must use a ten-horsepower Intek Model 20 Briggs and Stratton engine to make for a more challenging design process. Whether you are a mechanical pro or have never seen the interworking of a vehicle or been in a machine shop this is a perfect opportunity for you to learn the real world applications of all you will learn in engineering classes and give you a fun extracurricular that looks great on resumes and gives you tons of experience. Check out the Calendar on the main page to see when we are meeting next and go to the map on the main page for a map to the shop. We'd love to show you around! We hope you will consider becoming a part of our team! Also check out our Formula SAE team at http://www.facebook.com/UCFFormulaSAE

A Daytona post? In April???

Since we’re still catching up on our events, we wanted to share a bit about some of the volunteering our team got involved with this year!

Working at the Daytona 500, Rolex 24, Coke Zero, and Bike Week are always amazing opportunities for our members to meet new people on the team, raise money, and watch races! Fundraising events like these are essential to supporting the manufacturing of the car and getting us to competitions. We are grateful for the opportunities offered by .restaurants to volunteer at these events and can’t wait to help out again!

Our team has been busy in the machine shop lately...

Since last year, we’ve been working constantly to get everything ready for the competition next month. The support of our sponsor, Online Carbide, has helped us stay on track machining our parts! Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to acquire the endmills that we’ve used to machine various parts like our spherical housings, steering rack, and gears.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our members. Gathering a team to work in the machine shop has been a year-long effort: from Tyler leading workshops for interested members, to those same individuals actively machining parts for the car now.

We are looking forward to sharing more updates with you all as the car comes together!

We know it’s been a while since we’ve posted about the team, but here’s the first of many updates from this semester!

Despite the cold weather, we successfully hosted our spring New Member Knights with .formula !

It was great getting to meet so many interested attendees and share our current members’ experiences working on vehicles, participating in competitions, and rising into leadership positions. Events like these help our team share the benefits that Knights Racing provides both professionally and personally and gives new members the opportunity to get involved with our team projects almost immediately.

We were glad to talk with so many new faces during the New Member Knight events, and it has been great working with all the members who have joined since then!

Happy New Year!

Our team made the most of our winter break by finalizing the chassis design and fabricating our roll cage!

The late nights and tireless efforts from our team, guided by Gia, offered our new team additions, Cordae and Andres, the opportunity to learn and apply their welding and assembly skills.

Cordae made great contributions during both the design and assembly phases, focusing on jigs as the team continued to adjust the design in CAD. Along with Andres, these members also began their welding journey at the beginning of the Fall semester, and the work they have done shows a promising future for them as the welders of our team.

All of this work could not have been accomplished without the support of our amazing sponsors, Old Goat Custom Woods and Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co.

We are so proud of the work our members accomplished over the past month and are excited to keep sharing our progress this semester!

Stay tuned for more updates...
