In addition to the many great casting and fishing presentations we will have April 13th at the Bass Pro Shops in Orlando for the Florida Council FFI event, there will be world class fly tiers as well. Steve Potter will be spinning up some of his incredible deer hair creations and Peggy Brennen will be tying up here incredibly beautiful streamers, along with many other great fly tiers. Don’t miss it! The event will be from 9AM until 3PM. Lots of fun for everyone.

We are happy to announce an event at the Bass Pro Shops in Orlando on International Drive on April 13th from 9AM to 3PM. We have a great lineup of casting instruction, fly tiers, and speakers, including Jon Cave, Dave Peterson( Chairman of FFI ), and John Grasta. There will be plenty to see and learn, raffles, and fellow fly anglers to meet.

The Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club is having their annual Big Gun Shootout Fly Casting Contest Sunday, November 20th, starting at 9 AM at Picnic Island Park on Tampa Bay. This contest presents real world scenarios to test your fly casting prowess, both accuracy and distance. There are awards for individuals and for 3 person teams. A fun time is always had, so test your skills against other casters of various skill levels on a great course. Go to tbffc.org to visit their site. See you there!

Great memories- Great Guys who shared their talents with all of us.

We spent the day at the IGFA participating in the filming of The Saltwater Fly Fishing History Project. The project, researched by Jerry Gibbs and produced and directed by Jeffrey Pill, is sponsored by the American Museum of Fly Fishing.

The film will feature Individual interviews and a panel discussion with some of the sport’s true legends: Chico Fernandez , Flip Pallot , Lefty Kreh , Bill Curtis ,Stu Apte , Nat Ragland , Joan Wulff , and Nick Curcione , and is moderated by Mark Sosin . We relished hearing stories from the pioneering days of saltwater fly fishing, and soaking up the great history of the sport.

According to Yoshi Akiyama, Deputy Director of the museum, once the film is completed, it will appear in the museum which is located in Manchester, Vermont. The schedule is to have part of the display ready by 2013, the full installation in 2014 and a traveling exhibit ready by 2015. At that time, The Florida Council of FFF is hoping to get it for their annual EXPO.

We are absolutely thrilled to be able to announce a Special November meeting of Gold Coast Fly Fishers on Tuesday, November 12 at 7pm American Legion Post 142, 171 SW 2nd St. Pompano Beach to present an evening with Heather Harkavy. Since 2018, Heather has been the Director of Operations with Fish for Change and leading summer programs in hope to inspire a generation of change-makers globally.

Fish for Change's Mission:
Fish for Change is a nonprofit organization that offers international fly fishing programs. Our mission is to use fly-fishing as a platform to make the world a better place by uniting a diverse group of students in wild fisheries where they engage in a variety of initiatives that promote Connection, Education, Conservation, and Exploration.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) 2019 at Bradenton Yacht Club.

The 36th Annual Crosthwait Memorial Fishing Tournament and the Bradenton Yacht Club hosted the eighth annual PHWFF event on May 18, 2019. PHWFF is a national non-profit (501c3) program that teaches veterans with PTSD and TBI about fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, and fly rod building. It is helping heal the physical and emotional wounds of our veterans. Fly fishers from all over the country organize these fly fishing activities in conjunction with the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and Clinics. This program is promoted and supported by Fly Fishers International, its charter, and affiliated clubs.

This year we had 36 veterans and PHWFF volunteers/instructors fishing on the water. Twenty-two Florida captains provided their own boats and guiding experience.
