Bailey Tennis Footwork A revolutionary system for teaching tennis footwork, movement & balance on court hitting tennis balls

Bailey Tennis Footwork identifies and provides solutions to more than 50 of the most common problems associated with tennis footwork, movement & balance when playing tennis. The Bailey Method is a revolutionary way to develop tennis footwork & movement, taught whilst actually hitting tennis balls on the court. The training program is...

Simple
Effective
Personalised
Powerful

The Method is desig

ned around the concept of “completing the circle” every time you hit the ball. It introduces the progressive teaching method of the 5 R’s – ie: the player is taught how to get Ready, Read, React, Respond, and Recover on the court. We work with players to find their most effective footwork selections and develop strategies for delivery under "tournament stress".

ATP and WTA Top 5 returns in the order of frequency in a study of approximately 4,000 returns

Note: Returns make up roughly 15% to 20% of all tennis shots hit during a typical match. This proportion is calculated from the fact that return shots only happen once per point (on the opponent’s serve), and the overall average rally length across professional and recreational tennis is about 3.8 to 4.5 shots per point

ATP Men’s Top 5 Returns
1st - Power Move
2nd - Angled Power
3rd - Forward Transfer
4th - Fixed stance
5th - Mogul move

WTA Women’s Top 5 Returns
1st - Power Move
2nd - Angled Power
3rd: - High Mogul Move
4th - Forward Transfer
5th - High Spin

Interestingly the Top 2 returns in the ATP and WTA where the same!!!

Special Note

The results above .......came from both 1st and 2nd Serve returns but are not classified in the post as 1st or 2nd …the post is just frequency statistics

4 Situational Swing line Finishes

Swing lines finishes can be situational

Situational means : that a player has to adapt the finish of the swing to different approaching balls even though they might use the same Contact Move (as seen in the above video) … where we see that each player is hitting the same Contact Move (it being the on the run …Power Move) …but there are 4 different swing line finishes!

If you look carefully you will see the first 3 Power Moves there is a same side finish (often called a buggy whip swing) ……the 4th Power Move a shoulder level finish ..the 5th video a hip level finish and the final 6th video a flick of the wrist finish!

A DIFFERENT SWING FINISH could occur because of:

1.) The players court position
2.) The players grip choice
3.) The players skill level and gender
4.) The players wrist strength
5.) The players tactical decision or directional choice
6.) The contact point
7.) The contact move chosen & finally
and most importantly …….
8.) Which swing line finish the player feels comfortable with……and THAT WORKS BEST FOR-THAT PLAYER ….in some ways there is no right or wrong!!!

Therefore …..as a coach ….you must be a choreographer

I call it the 4E’s of Choreography

Experiment/ Experience/ Eliminate/ Embrace

Have fun! 🤩

To break someone’s rhythm in tennis …you need to be brave and hit a lower percentage shot

But in the end, it’s worth it if it comes off!

Yet …brave shots are usually harder to do …but …I think …if used about 20% of the time …they can be devastatingly effective ……….take Carlos Alcaraz for example …he is the master of rhythm breaking

However, …they are not easy to execute …and …certainly….they need to be practiced enough so you trust them when under tournament pressure

Here is my 8 top favourite BUT ADVANCED
Rhythm Breaking shots :

1.) Closed BH angle
2.) Runaround FH drop shot
3.) BH Carrioca slice (down the line)
4.) FH Drop Shot
5.) FH Lateral Hop angle
6.) BH Rhythmical low angled slice
7.) BH Drop Shot
8.) FH 1 Foot pivot (High heavy to the BH)

Try them as one complete 8 shot drill ….then throw them in with a Meat and potato 🥔 shot …….and select one every 8th shot…remember they work better as deceptions of sequence …that is…..make it look like you are about to hit a regular shot …and hit a rhythm breaker instead

Be brave!!! and have fun getting deceptive

Interesting note on choreography in tennis from Brain Game Tennis

Novak Djokovic hits approximately 85% to 90% of his drop shots from the backhand wing, with only 10% to 15% struck off his forehand.
A detailed breakdown of his drop shot directional tendencies includes:
• Backhand Down the Line: ~63%
• Backhand Crosscourt: ~23%
• Forehand Crosscourt: ~8%
• Forehand Down the Line: -6%

Carlos Alcaraz heavily favors his forehand for drop shots. 67.8% from his forehand side and only 32.2% from his backhand.

A big difference in their respective Drop Shot preference

Tai Chi Tennis Yoga
I like Tennis Tai Chi / Yoga as a group warm up at the very beginning of a lesson where the leader hits and the rest of the group shadow the leader and thus swing at the same time as the hitter out in front

It is called Tennis Tai Chi / Yoga as the emphasis is on :
1.) Strength
2.) Breathing
3.) Balance
4.) Timing
5.) Contact Point
6.) While Freezing the finish and slowing everything down

I particularly like it performed from the service line..... while the ball is thrown over the net by the coach …and …that ….everything is overemphasised..... so it can be better felt and understood !

The 4 boys demonstrating were fly in clinic clients of mine just this week.

Their names where Amrit, Simeon, Reid and Elijah

They all flew in from the
Huether Family Match Pointe Tennis Facility in
Sioux falls South Dakota

They were amazing students and even nicer boys …and so respectful and dedicated

Thanks for putting in the hard yards guys
