The preview put his name first for a reason. Jones’ edge and interior pressure was the story. Evans’ offense, built around Jackson’s arm and Dillard’s versatility, finished with six points at home. That is the Ards game, even without an official tackle sheet yet.

Ards committed to the Aggies in June over Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and FSU. Last season he posted 73–80 tackles, 13 TFL and 11 sacks depending on the source. Jones has been Class 4A state runner-up two straight years. This was the first statement of the 2026 regular season that the front can still tilt a rivalry game. 

Honorable mention goes to the rest of that Jones front and whoever forced the late-game stops. On the Evans side, Jackson and Dillard never found the rhythm they usually have to help Evans ink out the victory.

49th Annual “Soul Bowl”

City pride stayed with the Tigers!

The 49th Soul Bowl was not the shootout the preview promised. It was a grind. Jones walked into Evans High School 0-1 after a road loss to national power Santa Margarita and left with its first win of 2026, holding the Trojans scoreless through three quarters and surviving a late answer.

Texas A&M commit Fred Ards and Jones’ “4ROCIOUS” front against Maryland commit QB Will Jackson and WR Brian Dillard. Jones won the line of scrimmage. Evans did not score until the fourth. A fourth-down stop kept Jones up 12–0 heading into the final period. Evans punched one in after that, then the Tigers closed it out on the last snap.

Jones had opened the year 0–1 (plus a Kickoff Classic loss to Miami Central that does not count in the regular-season record) and sat No. 3 in the Sentinel Super 16. Evans came in 1–1 after an opening loss to Lake Nona and a bounce-back win. The Trojans loaded the roster with transfers (20 incoming, including Jackson from Camden County, Ga., and Dillard from The First Academy). Jones added 12. None of that showed up as points.

Week 3 delivered statement wins, four overtimes, and one of the biggest upsets of the young season. Osceola walked into Lake Mary and left with a 17-9 road win. TFA, Oviedo, Winter Park, and St. Cloud all needed extra football. West Orange and Edgewater looked like playoff teams. Here is the rewind!

The Kowboys held the 2025 state champs to almost nothing in the first half of a lightning-delayed game and closed it out with takeaways. First-ever win at Lake Mary. That is the clip that will travel this week.

PPR D1 Measurement Chart By Position ⚾️

Size is a starting point — not the whole evaluation.

These are typical D1 ranges coaches see when projecting high school prospects. They are bands, not cutoffs. Tools, velocity, exit velo, 60 time, defensive actions, and how you project in a college weight room still decide most offers.

• Pitcher (6’0”–6’5”, 180–230) — Height helps release point and plane. Command, velo, and secondaries matter more than being 6’4”. Plenty of D1 arms sit 5’11”–6’1” if they miss bats.

• Catcher (5’10”–6’2”, 180–220) — Durability + pop time + receiving. A shorter catcher with a 1.90–1.95 pop and leadership still gets looks.

• First Base (6’2”–6’6”, 200–240) — Power profile. Coaches want a target at first and extra-base damage.

• Second Base (5’9”–6’1”, 165–190) — Quickest feet, clean exchanges, baseball IQ. Smallest average body on the diamond.

• Shortstop (5’10”–6’2”, 170–200) — Range + arm + actions. Slightly more projectable size than 2B.

• Third Base (6’0”–6’3”, 190–220) — Strong arm, reactions, and enough bat to play a corner
• Center Field (5’10”–6’3”, 170–210) — Speed and instincts first. A 6.7–6.9 sixty closes a lot of size gaps.

• Corner OF (6’0”–6’4”, 190–225) — Length + arm + power. RF especially needs carry on the throw.

1. Be honest about current size and junior-year projection.
2. Pair it with verified 60, exit velo, infield/outfield velo, and pop time.
3. Middle-of-the-field guys can be smaller if they run and defend. Corner guys need the bat.
4. If you’re outside the range, own the trait that makes you different.

PPR DI Measurement Chart By Position 🏈

Size is a starting point — not a death sentence.

These ranges are what D1 staffs typically see (and project) in scholarship-level prospects. They are averages and bands, not hard cutoffs. Coaches look at frame, how you carry the weight, how much good mass you can still add in a college weight room, and whether the body matches the scheme. Film, production, verified speed, and football IQ still decide a lot of offers.

QB (6’2”–6’4”, 200–225) — Height helps see the field and drive the ball. Plenty of successful D1 QBs sit at the low end if they process fast and move well. Weight is easier to add than inches.

RB (5’10”–6’1”, 190–215) — Compact, violent runners with vision still get paid. Elite burst and contact balance beat “ideal” height every week.

WR (5’11”–6’3”, 180–205) — Outside guys usually want length. Slot guys can be shorter if they’re sudden and win in space. 40 time and route sharpness matter more than being 6’3”.

TE (6’3”–6’6”, 235–255) — Hybrid bodies. Need to block and run. Frame projection is huge here — a 6’4” 220-pound junior who can get to 245+ is often more interesting than a finished 255-pounder who can’t move.

OL (6’4”–6’7”, 290–320) — Clearest size threshold. Power 4 lines are now averaging ~6’4.5” and 310+ as starters. Length + the ability to add functional weight is the ticket.

DL (6’2”–6’5”, 260–300) — Edge vs interior splits this. Edges can be leaner and longer; interiors need mass and power. Movement skills separate guys who stay on the field.

LB (6’0”–6’3”, 215–245) — Range and play speed. A 6’1” 225-pounder who can run and tackle in space often beats a thicker, slower 6’3” guy.

DB (5’10”–6’1”, 180–205) — Length helps on the perimeter. Slots and nickel types can be smaller if they’re twitchy and compete. Ball skills and instincts close a lot of size gaps.
