๐Ÿฅ‹ A gi is much more than something we wear to train. It is part of the tradition, culture, and identity of the martial arts. ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿ’™ Every martial art has its own uniform, and in Jiu-Jitsu, the gi represents much more than fabric and patches. It reflects respect for the art, respect for our training partners, respect for our instructors, and pride in being part of a school. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ”ฅ Wearing your complete MA nation Lake Nona gi, with all of the academy patches, is a way of honoring our team, Master Ricardo Libรณrio, our professors, our coaches, and the values we share as a community. It reminds us that we are part of a true mat family. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ’™ Here at MA nation Lake Nona, even our white belts already understand this. As we can see in this photo, Carol and Abigail proudly wear their gis and represent our academy with pride. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿฅ‹ So, MA nation Lake Nona family, put on your complete gi, tie your belt, leave your flip-flops at the edge of the mats, and step onto the tatami to train! Weโ€™ll see you on the mats! ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿค Today is National Best Friends Day, a day to celebrate the people who make lifeโ€™s journey lighter, more enjoyable, and much more meaningful. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿฅ‹ As we can see in this photo, the friendship between Coach Howard and Cris is a great example of how Jiu-Jitsu brings together people from different backgrounds, professions, and walks of life. There is something special about the moments when those connections grow into true friendships built on respect, trust, laughter, and countless miles traveled together on and off the mats. ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿ’™ At MA nation Lake Nona, we are fortunate to see these connections happen every day. These friendships celebrate victories, provide support during challenging times, and make our academy much more than just a place to train. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrate this day by tagging your best friend. Happy National Best Friends Day to everyone who shares the mats with us. ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ”ฅ Yesterday, our mats were full as we welcomed our honoree, our beloved Master Libo, who received a very special tribute last weekend.

At a special ceremony during this yearโ€™s IBJJF World Championship in California, our master, the champion of the first Jiu-Jitsu World Championship held in 1996 in Rio de Janeiro, was honored alongside the other champions from that historic event as one of the athletes who helped build the history of modern Jiu-Jitsu. ๐ŸŒŽ

๐Ÿ† Back at MA Nation Lake Nona, Master Libรณrio brought his commemorative medal to share this special moment with our mat family.

โค๏ธ Master Libo, we are very happy to be able to share this moment with you. Thank you for everything you do for our MA Nation family. It is an honor to learn every day from someone who helped build the history of Jiu-Jitsu and who continues to write new chapters every day. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒŽ The IBJJF World Master Championship came to an end yesterday, but one of the most special tributes of the evening was dedicated to a piece of history that helped build the Jiu-Jitsu we know today. ๐ŸŒŽ

๐Ÿฅ‹ Master Ricardo Liborio was among those honored during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the first IBJJF World Championship, held in 1996 at Tijuca Tennis Club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At that historic event, Master Libo won the Super Heavyweight division and was voted the most technical athlete of the entire competition. ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿ† Three decades later, alongside other champions from that inaugural edition, he was once again recognized for his contribution to the history of our sport, receiving a commemorative medal during a special ceremony held at the World Master. ๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ”ฅ At MA nation Lake Nona, we have the privilege of learning every day from someone who not only lived through historic moments in Jiu-Jitsu, but continues to share his knowledge, experience, and values both on and off the mats. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿฅ‹ Congratulations, Master Libo. Your MA nation Lake Nona family is incredibly proud of you! ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿฅ‹ Did you know that our beloved Master Ricardo Libรณrio was named the most technical athlete of the first edition of the World Championship, held in the summer of 1996 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil? ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿ† At that time, the competition format required mandatory qualifiers for athletes, with a few exceptions reserved for Brazilian National Champions. Master Libo, already a Brazilian champion during that period, received a direct invitation from the IBJJF to compete in the Worlds. ๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ”ฅ At 28 years old, Master won the super heavyweight division title, even competing above his usual weight class, embracing the challenge of stepping outside his comfort zone and testing his own limits. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿค After that, he advanced to the absolute division final, where he would face his teammate, . It was then that he showed another quality he still carries to this day: generosity. Master Libo chose not to fight against his teammate, finishing as the absolute division runner-up of that edition. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ… The result of all this was that he was named the most technical athlete of the competition. ๐Ÿ…

๐Ÿ’› This story, which celebrates 30 years alongside the IBJJF Worlds beginning today, continues to live within our academy every single day. With that first World Championship as the backdrop, it teaches us three things that our master shares daily: we must always give our best, understand the importance of courage that takes us out of our comfort zone, and recognize that generosity never diminishes a champion, it makes them even greater. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ‘Š May the World Championship beginning today also remind us how fortunate we are to share the mats with someone who helped build the path that jiu-jitsu still follows today. ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿฅ‹ Many people walk into MA nation Lake Nona looking for martial arts, Jiu Jitsu, fitness or a new challenge. But somewhere between the warm ups, the training sessions and the daily routines on the mats, something bigger begins to happen, people stop feeling like strangers and start feeling not just part of a team, but part of a family. ๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿค Teammates become friends. Friends become family. And little by little, the academy becomes a place where people feel welcomed, supported and connected on and off the mats. ๐Ÿค

๐ŸŒŽ At MA nation Lake Nona, under the leadership and methodology of Master Ricardo Libรณrio, we are building much more than strong athletes. We are building a community where people grow together, support one another and celebrate every step side by side. ๐ŸŒŽ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Come be part of our family. Schedule a free trial class through the link in our bio or Stories and come experience what it feels like to train with our team on the mats. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Honoring the Brave, remembering with Heart. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Today, the nation pauses. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, itโ€™s a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

๐ŸŒธ This day began after the American Civil War, when communities gathered to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. What started as Decoration Day in the late 1860s became Memorial Day, a national day of remembrance for all U.S. military members who gave their lives in service. ๐ŸŒธ

๐Ÿค At , this meaning runs deep. Many of our students are proud members of the military, law enforcement, and first responder communities. We share the mats with those who live with courage, discipline, and a spirit of sacrifice. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿง  Today is a time to reflect, to honor not only the fallen, but the values they stood for: duty, unity, and service to something greater than ourselves. ๐Ÿง

๐Ÿ’› As the Greek philosopher Antisthenes once said:
โ€œGratitude is the memory of the heart.โ€ ๐Ÿ’›

โค๏ธ And if thereโ€™s one thing we carry in abundance at Manation Lake Nona , itโ€™s heart. โค๏ธ
