A house fire is probably unlikely, but a career change isn’t. Which one have you actually prepared for?

According to the TES Generational Career Confidence Survey, 83% of Americans think owning a business is a real alternative to a regular job. But most people never actually make a plan to see if that could work for them.

I've noticed a lot of fear on LinkedIn lately.

Fear of getting laid off. Fear of not finding another job. Fear of starting something and failing. Fear of making the wrong move.

The circumstances are real. The job market is tough, layoffs are happening, and entrepreneurship comes with risk. But staying in your own head and consuming everyone else's fear doesn't give you better information. It can actually make your world feel smaller.

I've watched people rule out possibilities before understanding them, or convince themselves they only have one path forward.

That's why I believe in conversations, discovery and second opinions.

Sometimes you find an option you hadn't considered. Sometimes you confirm that what you're already doing is exactly right.

Either way, information gives you something fear doesn't: perspective.

Have you considered the F.I.R.E. movement?

The Financial Independence, Retire Early (F.I.R.E.) movement gets one thing right: financial preparedness. If pursuing F.I.R.E. encourages disciplined saving and investing, that’s a positive—especially in a job market where layoffs seem never-ending. Through April, U.S. employers had announced more than 300,000 job cuts, according to the BLS.

But one thing gets underestimated: F.I.R.E is a strategy for escaping something. It rarely answers what you are running toward.

That is the gap I work in. The starting question is not "how fast can I leave?" but "what do I actually want my life to look like?" And then building backward to meet your income and lifestyle goals
