There are a lot of ways to finish a lapel choke from the back.

Some are faster. Some offer more control. Some work better depending on your opponent's reaction.

In this breakdown, we cover two of the most common finishes, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each, so you can find the version that works best for your game.

Remember: techniques aren't about memorizing steps. They're about understanding the details that make them work.

Which finish do you prefer? πŸ‘‡

Progress isn't always easy to see day to day.

It's easy to miss the long afternoons, the tough rounds, the frustrating classes, and all the small improvements that happen along the way.

Then one day, you look back and realize just how far you've come.

Congratulations to all of our students who earned promotions these past few weeks. These stripes represent more than techniques learnedβ€”they represent consistency, perseverance, and growth.

We're proud of every one of you and excited to see what the next chapter of your journey holds. Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep growing. πŸ‘

Today's results from Newbreed:

πŸ₯‡ 2 Gold πŸ₯ˆ 5 Silver πŸ₯‰ 0 Bronze

33 Team Points

More important than the medals and points, we're proud of every athlete who stepped onto the mats and accepted the challenge. Competition isn't easy. It takes courage to test yourself in front of a crowd, put your skills on display, and find out where you stand.

Wins teach. Losses teach. The experience is what helps us grow.

Congratulations to everyone who represented Valor Jiu-Jitsu today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, recover, and be proud of the work you put in.

🚨 Reminder: There will be NO Youth Competition Class tomorrow.

We'll be back to work on Monday. The journey continues. πŸ’ͺ

There are plenty of reasons people start Jiu-Jitsu.

Getting better is why they stay.

Not every class ends with a promotion, a medal, or a big breakthrough. Most days look like this: showing up, drilling techniques, helping your training partners, and putting in the work.

One rep at a time.
One class at a time.
One step closer to the person you're trying to become.

Progress is rarely dramatic. It's built in moments like these.
