Orange County Karate Club

Orange County Karate Club The class is for ages 10 and older. focusing on the Okinawan martial art Isshinryu (One Heart Way). Okinawan karate is by design defensive.

Isshinryu is comprised of 8 Karate (empty hand) Kata and 8 Kobudo (weapons) Kata. The development of Okinawan Karate was born hundreds of years ago. Traditional Okinawan weapons are adaptations of common objects.

Found this picture, circa 1986 competing in a tournament. This is the only picture I have at that time. Taking pictures was not common as it is today. My wife accompanied me to this tournament (first and last one) and took this picture. There was only one picture left to take on the roll. If you don't know what I'm taking about, ask someone over 50. Any Isshinryu friends want to take a guess at which Kata?

Fifty years ago this month I took my first karate lesson from GM Gary Alexander. Yesterday, he passed away. He not only kindled in me a love for karate, but more importantly, taught me many life lessons that altered the trajectory of my life for the better. Thank you Sensei.
