Hi SunSpark Peeps!
It's that time of year again: Ernie's very un-yoga-like annual rant about being closed for The Orange International Street Fair Special PAID PARKING EDITION. BONUS: this year, for the first time we got potties on our entire sidewalk with absolutely no warning or consultation, loudly placed during our only class of the day this morning. For the first 13 years we were here, they were in front of Rod's Liquor and Bosscat (not fair to them either). A real person or people actually made the decision that this year the potties for our entire block should specifically be in front of Old Towne's only yoga studio.
We tried being part of the fair for our first few years in business. We were excited! We even looked into having a booth. You'd think a business that is directly affected by the fair would get a break on fees. Thousands of dollars for a weekend promo makes it a bit out of reach for a yoga studio. But anyways, unless customers live within walking distance of SunSpark, nobody can park close enough to take classes, so we shut down and take a forced vacation.
But, if you are coming to the party this weekend, good news! The city has suspended paid parking for the big shindig. Although, the majority of paid parking is behind the barricades, inside the street fair, so it won't be accessible, but we all appreciate the intention. Even better news: for a limited time, the always free parking structure is only 10 bucks! So, it is confirmed that the City of Orange, California can suspend paid parking when it wants to, just not for the Old Towne businesses that have asked for relief (emails and city council speech) from the damage that paid parking has caused since February.
