History of Irvine
-1864 James Irvine, Sr (born in Ireland) assembled land from Spanish & Mexican land grants
-1892, doubled in size (James Irvine, Jr inherited the ranch at age 19, when his father died 1866)
-Since 1864, one of Californias landowners
-has gifted 57,500 acres for green space (Abt. 50% of Irvine Ranch), preserved forever.
-Irvine family was one of the richest, but giving California families. Given land and/or many to many causes.
-1996 Donald Bren became the majority owner of Irvine Company, privately held.
