The DeWitt Physical Fitness Center, located inside the Rowenhorst Student Center, is campus headquarters for fitness and recreation. Newly renovated in 2013, the fitness center won a design award from the American School & University Educational Interiors Showcase. This ultramodern facility houses a workout area equipped with the latest Matrix strength training and cardio equipment, free weights a

nd fitness gear. Also located in the DeWitt Fitness Center is a large four-court area with the capabilities to host basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, and pickle ball. Surrounding the four court area is a one-tenth mile, four lane indoor track. In addition to the four-court gym, the space is also home to three racquetball courts with wallyball capabilities. A game area, located directly adjacent to the racquetball courts, offers pool, foosball, and ping pong. Men's and women's locker rooms equipped with showers and lockers are also available to guests.

RSC UPDATE - Good news!

In this afternoon’s press conference, Governor Reynolds announced that recreational sports and events may resume for youth and adults. We will, therefore, lift some of the further restrictions we implemented on Nov. 17th, effective immediately. Below is an updated overview of the policies and procedures currently in place. Please reach out if you have any questions.

What to expect on your next trip to the RSC:
A. Masks must be worn upon entry to the RSC. Masks may be removed for physical activity.
B. To enter the Fitness Center, members must answer “no” to the following COVID screening questions:
- Have you been in close contact (within 6 feet for longer than 15 minutes) with someone who has a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis within the last 14 days?
- Do you currently have any of the following symptoms that appear to be abnormal to you?
o Fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea
C. Capacity limits will continue to be enforced as follows:
- Fitness Area – 25
- Game Room (converted to additional cardio space) – 9
- Racquetball Courts – 4 per court
- Four Court Area – 15 per court
- Walking track – 15
D. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes are available throughout the facility. Members are asked to wipe down equipment both before and after use.
E. All RSC members and guests will be expected to continue following physical distancing practices – maintaining a distance of 6 feet apart.
F. Equipment will continue to be physically distanced both in the fitness area and in the game room.
G. There will be no “working in” on equipment and circuits are discouraged. Members must finish sets and wipe off equipment.
H. Most of our shared, hand-held, and smaller equipment will continue to be located behind the RSC welcome desk to be checked out for use. This will allow us to disinfect thoroughly between users.

RSC UPDATE: LIMITED ACTIVITIES/CAPACITY

RSC DeWitt Fitness Center Update RE: Public Health Proclamation 11.17.2020

This week Governor Reynolds signed a new proclamation modifying public health measures – specifically as it applies to recreational activities and fitness centers. I, along with other fitness center director colleagues, found the proclamation language confusing and incomplete, hence the delay in implementation here in the RSC. Upon further communication with the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Governor’s office, it is now clear we must temporarily suspend group activities in the RSC. This includes basketball and racquetball.

Effective immediately today, Friday, Nov. 20th –
1. Court use will be limited to individuals or single households. We will allow one individual/household per basketball hoop in the four court area.
2. Both the fitness area (with cardio/strength equipment) and the walking track will be limited to 20 individuals each.
3. The game room that has been converted into additional cardio space will have a capacity of seven.

This proclamation expires on December 10, 2020. We will look for further guidance from local officials and make applicable changes at that time.

I am sincerely sorry for the negative impact the restriction of recreation in the RSC has on our members and community. I hope we can continue to find ways to fellowship and invest in our health, safely, outside of the RSC as needed.

When we are allowed to lessen these restrictions, ALL RSC memberships will be credited with the timeframe lost. We recognize that even though members may still be able to use parts of the RSC, it is far from ideal and will come with inconveniences due to capacity limitations.
