Oneonta High School senior earns full ride to Harvard University, joins Class of 2030
Big congratulations are in order for Oneonta High School senior Fernando Nunez, who has officially been accepted to Harvard University with a full-ride scholarship.
Nunez, a member of the Class of 2030 at Harvard, has spent years working toward this moment — a goal that reflects both academic excellence and long-term dedication. Friends, teachers and community members say his achievement is the result of countless hours of hard work, discipline and perseverance.
Getting accepted into Harvard is no small feat. As one of the most selective universities in the world, the admissions process looks for far more than just high grades. Students typically need a combination of:
• Exceptional GPA and rigorous coursework (such as AP or honors classes)
• Strong standardized test scores (SAT or ACT, when submitted)
• Leadership roles and extracurricular involvement
• Community service and meaningful impact outside the classroom
• Personal essays that showcase character, resilience and ambition
• Letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors
With an acceptance rate often below 5%, standing out requires not only academic success but a clear story of passion, purpose and commitment — qualities Nunez has demonstrated throughout his high school career.
Earning a full-ride scholarship makes the accomplishment even more significant, removing financial barriers and allowing him to focus fully on his education at one of the nation’s top institutions.
For Nunez, this moment represents more than just an acceptance letter — it’s the payoff of years of effort and a stepping stone toward an even brighter future.
Congratulations again to Fernando Nunez on this incredible achievement. Blount County is proud.
