Muscle-ups start with mastering the basics.

Here’s Ed, , working on a false grip ring row to transition, one of the best drills for learning the transition phase of a muscle-up.

The false grip allows you to stay connected to the rings as you move from the pull to the dip position, making the transition smoother and more efficient.

💪 Benefits of the false grip ring row to transition :
✅ Builds pulling strength specific to the muscle-up
✅ Improves transition mechanics
✅ Develops wrist and forearm strength
✅ Teaches proper ring control and body positioning

Whether your goal is your first muscle-up or a stronger, more efficient one, spending time on the fundamentals pays off.

🍞 Let’s Talk Carbohydrates

Carbs often get a bad reputation, but they’re your body’s preferred source of fuel.

Whether you’re lifting weights, running, playing sports, or just trying to make it through a busy day, carbohydrates provide the energy your muscles and brain need to perform at their best.

✅ Fuel workouts and recovery
✅ Support performance and endurance
✅ Help replenish glycogen stores after exercise
✅ Provide energy for your brain and nervous system

Not all carbs are created equal. Focus on nutrient-dense sources like:

🥔 Potatoes
🍚 Rice
🍓 Fruit
🥣 Oats
🍞 Whole grains
🫘 Beans and legumes

The goal isn’t to avoid carbs, it’s to match your intake to your activity level and choose quality sources most of the time.

Remember: Protein builds and repairs. Fat supports hormones. Carbs fuel performance.

🏃‍♂️🏅 The Gleeson Family and Coach Bob took on the Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon yesterday!

The day had a little bit of everything, sunshine at the start, rain at the finish, and 13.1 or 26.2 miles of hard-earned memories in between.

From the first step to the finish line, they battled the hills, the weather, and their own limits. That’s what endurance events are all about, not perfect conditions, but showing up and getting the job done regardless of what the day throws at you.

Congratulations to David, Susan, David Jr., and Coach Bob on an incredible accomplishment. We’re proud to have you representing the Garage Gym community!

Now enjoy the medals, the recovery, and maybe a few well-earned stories about running through the rain. 💪

Primal Performance was all about grit last night! 🔥

The crew took on:

🚣‍♂️ 2000m Row
🦵 50 Alternating Single-Leg Squats
🏋️ 30 Heavy Hang Cleans

This workout tested everything—engine, balance, coordination, strength, and mental toughness. After a hard row and 50 single-leg squats, that barbell suddenly feels a whole lot heavier!

What makes these sessions special isn’t just the workout—it’s watching people push through challenges together, encourage each other, and leave stronger than when they walked in.

Great effort by everyone who showed up and got after it. Judging by the sweat and smiles, I’d say it was a successful night. 💪

Coach Brice putting in the work with Shoulder Waves today. 🌊💪

Shoulder mobility isn’t just about getting your arms overhead. It’s about maintaining healthy shoulders for training, work, and everyday life.

This simple drill helps improve shoulder mobility, coordination, and control through a full range of motion. Whether you’re pressing overhead, throwing, swimming, or just reaching for something on a high shelf, healthy shoulders make everything easier.

Benefits of regular shoulder mobility work:
✅ Improved overhead position
✅ Better lifting mechanics
✅ Reduced risk of shoulder irritation
✅ Improved posture
✅ Greater body awareness and movement control

Remember: mobility isn’t something you do when you’re injured—it’s something you do to stay healthy and performing at your best.

A few minutes of mobility work today can help keep you moving well for years to come.

🎥 Ed Takes on HYROX NYC 🗽

A huge congratulations to Ed Browka on completing his first HYROX competition in New York City!

HYROX is no joke. It demands endurance, strength, mental toughness, and the ability to keep moving when your body wants to quit. That’s why preparation matters.

One of the biggest lessons in training is that the things we avoid are often the things we need most. Wall balls, sprints, sleds, and all the uncomfortable work may not be fun in the moment, but they build the fitness needed to succeed on race day.

Proud of you, Ed. You showed up, trusted the process, and crushed your first HYROX experience. Now enjoy the accomplishment… before we start talking about the next one. 💪🔥

“Don’t overdo it.”

Most active people have heard this from family, friends, or coworkers.

The problem is that many inactive people view the body like a set of brake pads or something that wears down the more you use it.

But the human body doesn’t work that way.

Muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and even your cardiovascular system adapt to stress over time. When training is applied appropriately and progressively, your body becomes stronger, more resilient, and more capable.

The real risk isn’t usually doing too much.

It’s doing too little for years, then expecting your body to handle a physically demanding task when life suddenly requires it.

Think about it:

➡️ We don’t get stronger by avoiding stairs.
➡️ We don’t build bone density by sitting on the couch.
➡️ We don’t maintain muscle by protecting it from work.

The body follows the demands placed upon it.

Of course, training should be smart and progressive. More isn’t always better. But neither is less.

Your goal shouldn’t be to preserve your body by avoiding stress.

Your goal should be to prepare your body for the stresses of life.

Train consistently. Recover appropriately. Adapt continually.

That’s how we stay capable for decades.

Push-Ups: The Ultimate Bodyweight Exercise

No gym. No equipment. No excuses.

The humble push-up builds upper body strength, core stability, shoulder health, and muscular endurance all at once.

A quality push-up trains:
✅ Chest
✅ Shoulders
✅ Triceps
✅ Core
✅ Total-body tension

Can’t do one yet? Start with an incline or from your knees and build from there.

Remember: perfect reps beat sloppy reps every time.

How many strict push-ups can you do in a row?
