Update:
For those that would like to skip the details; Opening date remains TBD.
The installation of the replaced materials and new lay-up concluded in late March. A slowdown was experienced shortly afterwards due to equipment issues and an injury at home. I am now working on wrapping up the 2 bathrooms and kitchen.
Since my guesstimates have proven to be too aggressive and wishful thinking, they have been removed from the posts to save on confusion.
Details:
Shortly after the installation of the replacement materials, the above average temperatures this Spring mixed with equipment issues made daytime work impossible...Usually starting after 1AM if it cooled down enough. After several incorrect parts from the manufacture, the portable equipment was finally up and running 8 weeks later. This was followed by an injury at home to my hand this summer that took me down for a while. After 4 weeks, I was able to return to work at 80% level while the nerve damage continues to heal. A full recovery is expected in the months to come.
As stated in the last post, we were looking at the impacts due to the delay of switching manufacturers for materials. That shift now added with equipment issues and an injury, caused us to fall off the schedule with the subs which forced us to reorganize and devise a work around. The subs are now working to a fit us in here and there. Unfortunately we are at their mercy, but they are doing well at fitting us in. I am currently working around the subs as they progress on their work. I have the bathrooms and kitchen built and nearly ready for finish work once the subs complete their tasks.
As usual, better news too. To give a more reliable and fun bowling experience, the original plan included an upgrade of the bowling equipment after re-opening. However, I used the setbacks to work on implementing this now. It has been designed, proto-typed, tested and sent to manufacturing. This upgrade replaces the 1970's logic with a μProcessor controller and solid state motor drivers.
What this means is the bowling machines will now communicate with the scoring system - getting rid of 10th frame manual resets and gutter/single pin resets. Additional features added are pin count redundancy, increased efficiency, pin distributor monitoring, self-diagnostics, front desk trouble alerting, full electronic machine control, maintenance indicators and much more. Burn in of the new controllers and shake down of the new design will be done once the new boards are assembled.
While I do not have pictures prior to the start of remodeling, attached are 2 ‘Before’ pics. These show the work that was done on removal of what was left of the ceiling, inspecting/cleaning the upper trusses, re-supporting necessary areas and painting. As you can tell lots of cleanup was completed after that. Working around the disassembled machines was a nightmare. Much better now since they are back to their original locations. The other 2 pictures named ‘After’ is a look over the bowling area and entrance taken in April. Sorry for the dim lighting. We are working with portable equipment while the subs finish their work.
More to come.
