Finding How to Connect with Someone
Not every client is “that perfect client”. A gal in her mid-60s came to us and was referred by another good client. She had recently been diagnosed with celiac disease, was struggling with weight loss, energy level and just not feeling well. She was very thin, and always complained about the cold. She was also worried about her bone strength and didn’t want to hurt in any way. She was the kind of client where even her facial expressions expressed her discomfort. The mental part is just as important as the exercise and I had to find a way to help her see that she had options. Aside from the benefits of exercise, I believe this is partly what SuperSlow Zone is about: finding how to connect with someone. She started sharing her experiences with treatment for her disease and I saw my opportunity open. I could relate due to challenging and similar personal experiences of my own. “Just breath and relax,” I’d say. It still took several months to convince her to stay, but she stuck with it and with me. She’s no longer frail, she’s laughing, and she’s enjoying what she is doing for herself.
