With a heavy heart, I'm announcing that there won't be a 9 ft tournament in 2020.
Here is the transparent explanation. Two years ago Genesis Westroads stopped allowing outside tournaments. Last year we paid almost double the amount to rent Omaha Sports Academy (OSA) on Stonegate Circle. Even with increasing the team registration cost and not offering t-shirts, we didn't quite break even. Then, I was surprised when I was notified that the court floors at that OSA location were torn up. I only found 1 other gym in Omaha that fit our tournament's criteria; ability to lower hoops, allowed to dunk, and more than 1 court. That gym is an additional 25% higher rental rate than OSA was. So, the tournament just isn't financially feasible anymore.
We've had so many highlights since we started it in 2009. We're very thankful for the many friends we've made and the healthy competition with talented and honorable athletes. We want to thank all those who helped make these past 11 tournaments so fun and enjoyable.
