Member Monday: Meet one of our amazing 2025 Club 180 Members, Lisa!

“The Buena Vista Y is close to my home, so when the weather isn’t conducive to walking outside, I can still get in a great workout.

I’ve been shown that my rowing technique wouldn’t get me across the Papio Creek… but now I think I can row the Atlantic!

Walking into the Buena Vista Y is like an episode of ‘Cheers’ — everyone knows your name. I’ve met really nice people and friendly folks.”

🎂 Yesterday, we celebrated our 160th YMCA birthday by giving back to our community! ❤️

As part of our Birthday For All charitable project, YMCA staff assembled 175+ birthday cake kits to be donated to local food pantries across all five counties our YMCA serves in Nebraska and western Iowa.

Thanks to the generosity of our YMCA campers, staff and members, supplies were donated throughout the summer to make these special kits possible. Each kit includes items such as a cake pan, cake mix, frosting, soda and candles—everything families need to celebrate a birthday and create special memories together. 🎉

We are so grateful for everyone who helped make this project possible. What a beautiful way to celebrate our birthday—by spreading joy, kindness and a little sweetness throughout the communities we are blessed to serve! ❤️🎂

We loved welcoming Erik Servellon, Development and Communications Director for OneWorld Community Health Centers and YMCA of Greater Omaha Metro Board member, to the Buena Vista YMCA Express for an awareness tour last week.

From members building confidence with EGYM, to adults prioritizing their health, to seniors finding connection and community, the visit was a powerful reminder that the Y’s impact is best experienced in person.

What made the visit especially meaningful was the opportunity to share stories of members who have regained strength, confidence, and connection, both mentally and physically. As we celebrate 160 years of serving the metro, these moments matter.

Awareness tours bring our community closer to our mission, turning stories into experiences and strengthening the partnerships that help make our work possible.

Thank you, Erik, for spending time with us and for being part of the YMCA’s legacy of strengthening community!
