How To Putt Without Being Frozen Over The Ball

Players can often look like human still life over a putt. Putting is important, especially for professional players, but what takes some people soooo looong to begin their stroke?
Putting is 3 things; green reading, hitting your startline, at the proper speed for the read. The read has already been made before addressing the ball, so that leaves alignment and speed.
How long does it take to align the putter. Typically not long. That leaves speed of the putt. Are players who remain still over a putt for an extended period trying to decide how hard to hit the putt?
When tossing a ball to another person, do you stand motionless and wait for an extended time staring at your target. Not likely. You can determine how much force should go into your toss within a couple of seconds, not dozens of seconds.
Aaron Baddeley has been an elite putter for years, but he only takes a few seconds to make his putting stroke.
Whatever it is that makes players stand motionless over a putt is likely adding pressure to their situation. They may have a checklist to go through before beginning a stroke, but all of their personal checkpoints may be an indication their setup is not as stable as they would like it to be.
Players often need a trigger, such as a forward press (risky for misalignment), or bouncing the putter. Both of these triggers are evidence of an unconnected and vulnerable setup. Players can putt well with triggers until they don't.
Jack Nicklaus is famous for standing over a putt for extended periods, but he was not human still life. He continually looked from the ball to the hole until just before beginning a stroke.
