Dancing tonight at Shaare Tefila and on Zoom, 8-11ish pm (Eastern US). This week I'll teach a circle dance that was requested last week by one of our Zoom participants but which I don't think we've done before at our session: Mashehu Tov משהו טוב. Dance is by Avi Levy, the song is from Yishai & Shir Levy. The dance was created in 2019 and got "missed" by many sessions due to Covid. Last week only the folks on Zoom danced it, this week we can all learn it. This one's not really a new dance and not really an old dance, it's right in-between.

I'll also review the couples dance Lada'at Le'ehov לדעת לאהוב, by (Dudu Barzilay / Ron Buchnik & Guy Marzig / 2025) that I taught last week.

This week I'll review the circle dance I taught last week, Sipur Acher סיפור אחר (Elad Shtamer / Narkis / circle / 2026), and teach a beautiful couples dance called Lada'at Le'ehov לדעת לאהוב, by Dudu Barzilay. The song is by Ron Buchnik & Guy Marzig, from 2025.

We wish a good and safe trip נסיעה טובה to everyone traveling to Israel to vote in next week's elections there. Flights are very expensive these days, so if you're going over to vote, then next week (or when you come back), show me your boarding pass (or any travel document) and dancing is free for you that night.

I will review Yisraeli Complet ישראלי קומפלט (Gadi Bitton / Hatikva 6 / 2026 circle) and teach a beautiful couples dance from Rafi Ziv from 2005, Shir Mekomi שיר מקומי. Last week I reviewed Livluvim לבלובים (Erez Tubul / circle / 2026) and taught Hine Hastav Avar הנה הסתיו עבר (Shalom Amar / Hagevatron / couples / 1980). I'll review it tonight and teach Yisraeli Complet ישראלי קומפלט, a circle dance by Gadi Bitton from earlier this year. Music is by Hatikva 6.

We are back! I hope everyone's year is off to a great start and I'm eager to make it even better with music and dancing together with all of you.

Dancing tonight is at Shaare Tefila and on Zoom, 8-11ish pm (Eastern US). Before the Holidays I taught Livluvim לבלובים (Erez Tubul / circle / 2026), which won the new dance competition at the Karmiel Dance Festival this year, and I'll review it this week. We'll also have some dances for the season: the beginning of Autumn and the beginning of a new year. This will include Hine Hastav Avar הנה הסתיו עבר, a classic couples dance by Shalom Amar from 1980. Beautiful music by Hagevatron.

A reminder that we are not dancing tonight: like many synagogues, Shaare Tefila is observing the annual Night of Many Chairs, where Social Halls around the world are filled with chairs that were set up for Rosh Hashana services and remain until Yom Kippur. Dancing tonight at Shaare Tefila and on Zoom, 8-11ish pm (Eastern US). Last week I reviewed Shki'a Vruda שקיעה ורודה (Tuvia Tishler / Ronit Ofir / 1998 / circle) and taught Mada Bidyoni מדע בדיוני, (Gadi Bitton / Eyal Golan / 2025 / couples), which I'll review this week. I didn't play Ha'ahava Hayeshana Sheli האהבה הישנה שלי which I'd taught the week before, so that's definitely on the playlist for this week, along with other favorites.

While we're in this period at the end of the Jewish year, a time when we look back and look forward, I'll also teach one more new circle dance, Livluvim לבלובים by Erez Tubul, which won the new dance competition at the Karmiel Dance Festival this year. The dance is in the style of a good old fashioned hora, so it's a bit of old and new all wrapped up in one.

Speaking of the holidays, after this week we'll be off for the next 2, while the Shaare Tefila social hall is set up for High Holiday services. Shana tova!

Dancing tonight at Shaare Tefila and on Zoom, 8-11ish pm (Eastern US). Last week the watermelon was delish (and the ice cream cake was extra special yummy - thanks to Sarah K. for that!) but there was an issue with the WiFi. You can tell in the room when it happens because the dance name info on the wall stops working: an inconvenience but not a show-stopper. However, it also completely knocks out the Zoom connection, so the show is over for any of our Zoom friends until / unless I'm able to fix it. I've done some updates on the laptop since last week so hopefully we'll be back and glitch-free this week.

On the dance floor, I reviewed Ha'ahava Hayeshana Sheli האהבה הישנה שלי (Gadi Bitton and Yaron Carmel / Eyal Golan / 2024 / couples), and taught Shki'a Vruda שקיעה ורודה (Tuvia Tishler / Ronit Ofir / 1998 / circle), which I'll review this week. I'll also teach Mada Bidyoni מדע בדיוני, another couples dance from Gadi Bitton from last year, sung by Eyal Golan.
