Today was a special day at Grindstone West.

We handed out a lot of stripes, and while they may look like small pieces of tape, they represent consistency, hard work, perseverance, and growth. Every stripe earned today is proof that showing up matters.

The highlight of the day was watching earn his blue belt. Anyone who trains Jiu Jitsu knows that a blue belt isn’t given, it’s earned through countless hours of learning, struggle, and commitment. Frankie puts in the work, commits to progress, and represents the team well on and off the mats. That blue belt is much deserved.

What makes us most proud isn’t the promotions themselves. It’s the community behind them. Teammates cheering for teammates. People pushing each other to become better every day.

Congratulations to everyone who earned a stripe today, and a huge congratulations to Frankie on his blue belt.

This weekend was a historic one for Grindstone.

For the first time in our academy’s history, promoted two Brown Belts to Black Belt . was also awarded a first degree to his black belt. Moments like this are hard to put into words because unless you’ve lived this journey, it’s difficult to truly understand what those belts represent.

In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a Black Belt is not something handed out quickly. For most people, it takes 10 to 15 years of consistent training, sacrifice, setbacks, injuries, victories, failures, growth, and perseverance to earn. Some estimates say only 1 to 2% of people who step onto the mats ever make it to Black Belt level. (BJJ Analytics). That’s what makes these moments so emotional.

These promotions are not just about skill. They are about character. About showing up when life gets hard. About staying committed when motivation fades. About becoming someone stronger mentally, physically, and emotionally over the course of years.

To our newly promoted Black Belts and our newly awarded first degree Black Belt, thank you for helping build the culture of Grindstone. You represent what this academy stands for. Humility. Discipline. Loyalty. Growth. Brotherhood and sisterhood on the mats.

And to everyone thinking about starting Jiu Jitsu or continuing their journey, this is proof of what is possible when you refuse to quit. Every Black Belt was once the nervous beginner walking through the doors for the very first time.

The journey is long. But it is worth every second of it. Congratulations. The entire Grindstone family is proud of you. Welcome to the 1% ⚔️

Grindstone East grand opening was one for the books.

The mats were full, the energy was high, and the support in the room said everything about what this place really is. A community built on consistency, respect, and people showing up for each other.

We also had the privilege of recognizing some serious hard work today with 2 new blue belts (Chris & Bella), 1 new purple belt ( ), and 2 new brown belts (Coach Frank and Coach Randy) along with many stripes. No shortcuts in any of it. Just time, pressure, and commitment stacking up day after day until the moment finally arrives.

We recognized coach as coach of the year for his consistency and dedication to improving Grindstone. We also recognized coach Frank with the Eddie Award. This is a special award that goes to the hardest worker in the room. Coach Frank leads the kids program and fills in for other classes when needed. Coach Mike and Coach Frank set the bar very high and Grindstone is blessed to have them.

What stood out most wasn’t just the promotions, it was the room. Families, teammates, coaches, and new faces all under one roof, sharing the same space and the same standard. That’s Grindstone.

Grindstone East is here and it already feels like home.
